[STICKY]

Since no one else has posted about the upcoming Pink trail day...

I hope as many people can come out and participate despite Crankworks and other duties.

This is an opportunity to help work on a non-intermediate trail. Since it's rare that trails other than the standard few get worked on (griffin, espresso, pangor, pipeline) hopefully if some good work gets done we'll get to keep some more advanced trails if the district decides to axe some trails on Fromme.

Dark Cycles is doing the lunch.

Shuttles: Steed is providing the shuttle service.

Meet at 9am at Upper Lynn School on Coleman or at the trailhead.

drops to flat are fine but the drops into holes are a little much.

IMO the drops to flat are totally doable on Starfish, but tranies are much more fun and easier on the bike.

I'll be up for the trail day helping out the Dark Cycles crew with lunch.

Such a shame, that it is the same day as crankworks. I've been looking for this trail day for a long time, but I have the weekend booked for whistler. I am very sorry that I can't come. Now that I am recovered from injury I will make up by not missing another trail day.

Hmmmm - OK - what needs to be done is a) a few a-frames need something more than a pit to roll into (unless you pull up before hand but seeing as there is an increasing pit size on them most people are not treating them like partial jumps) b) rocking in the landing zones on a few jumps - this doesn't mean making them with 45 degree trannies but removing[fill] the pits that are forming c) the loose rocky area before the shed needs something as it's just getting worse d) there are a few minor fixes to some older log rides that need just a bit of love.

Drainage wise this is a pretty good trail - having ridden it many times in the wet (and snow).

Funny how people get upset at the thought of changes to a trail they currently ride (and likely ride well). Seems that this occurs on any trail e.g. Neds: the natural jump now has a ladder down despite having two optional lines around it - it has been stated you can still jump it (although it means hitting it faster to miss the ladder which maybe some people don't want to do). We can all argue if it's good or bad - I guess if it was a big concern there would have been protesters at the drop with signs :-)

By the way - whoever built the new bridge/jump/berm at the endof pangor - great work! First time I hit pangor since the trail day but I didn't remember anyone working on that part (then again I wasn't working down that far) so I assume it was done after the trail day.

I'd like to thank everyone who came out to the trail day - it was far more successful than I had anticipated and a lot of work was accomplished. We had 4 chainsaws which was great - and some excellent cedar sources were found.

Hopefully pics will be coming soon. Food was great - thanx Dark Cycles! And the most desired prize was one of their cool looking bashgaurds (I forget who won it but it was well deserved).

Broken structures were repaired, a jump pit filled in (don't worry - it's still a flat landing), one new little optional line was created, and the smooth tranny/berm was created at the end of a small rockface along with some minor (but necessary) repairs here and there. Only one real spot remains that needs love - the chute before the shed - perhaps a future trail day or if someone feels ambitious (needs a full on long ladder bridge or something over it as it's too big to rock in and would just decay quickly anyways).

Luckily no one likes riding it for some reason despite multiple lines to choose from so thanx to everyone for fixing "my" trail :-) Please remember that only Air Supply and Espresso are options after finishing UOC or 7th/Bookwus. [you'd have to climb for 5min otherwise]

Yeah rode the trail last night , was ok , but the flow on that trail is very staggard and some spots are just poorly set up , , like drops into a turn as soon as your landing with rocks and roots snaggin u up , or sharp switchbacks directly into a drop that that u don't get the momentum to hit it good , the structures are built well but some are just poorly placed , its a more technical trail than i thought it would be but maybe just for me flow and speed is what makes it a wickid run .

I rode it too. Same perception as you too. Very technical. Flows like a river in winter, chunky. Funny though. On foot when doing the work Sunday it looked a lot different. That's OK, some guys like it a lot. Should be something for all up there eh.

Starfish was always about slow trialsy moves, hence the flat drops.

I love some of the skinny lines on the trail though, not to high up and pretty tricky.

Not everything needs to be A-line!

I sure hope every trail day doesn't have A-line in mind. The Shore is the Shore because it's technical!

I heard Cypress bikepark has really nice "flowy" and "fast".

Yes it's a technical double black diamond trail. It is NOT airsupply or Jerryrig nor A-line. If you think about it, all of the "popular" trails are smooth well rocked paths with optional hits to big beautiful trannies (not to say they are easy - but the hard part are the jumps - not the trail). But they are not the original trails of the NS (not even close), nor should they be the only trails on the NS.

Its more of a question of what you like to ride. If you don't do the jumps on certain trails you can ride many of them on a fully rigid (I've seen it done). I'm not knocking them either - just pointing out a fact.

Personally I think it flows nicely for a very technical trail. The jumps were actually built for slow pops - mostly pedal kick type (a lost art - perhaps for good reason - but still a lost art). To flow the trail you need to do it slowly (for the most part) but you can easily do it clean if you are careful.

If you don't like pink you probably don't like bitches brew, upper boundary, bookwus, upper crippler, and similar trails.

ha ha ha! those are all my favourite trails.

Nope - he'd be squating if he was (he's my dog and he hasn't learned to lift his leg - I can't teach him as I don't lift my leg either (then again I don't squat either:-) ).

Great pics - thanx again to everyone.

By the way the "tranny" is no more than it ever was - 'cept now it's not a pit (really it's not much more than a flat landing). There are some better trannies - but nothing like most jumps have nowadays.

I'll have to check it out tomorrow!
