View Full Version : Max ALine speed?

So...I'm thinking that there must be a max speed you go on ALine, or else you'll overshoot all the trannies. I guess the faster you go, the lower you should keep your bike?
Anyway, I'm finding that if I'm catching tranny on most of the jumps, that's about as fast as I can go. Any faster, and I have to scrub speed, or land flat and crash.
With the Air DH coming up...how do these guys (and you guys who will race it) go faster without landing to flat? I'm thinking go for distance rather than height on the jumps, keepign the bike as low as possible?

You'll find all of the above, but the real time savings is how fast you can corner and what you can make up on the straights.
A good time is under 5 minutes.
Average racers will do 4:30-4:45.
Fast guys will be 4:20-4:30.
Winner will be 4:10-4:15
Prejump, Suck everything up, pump trannies, Air the Drop (Don't go around), No breaks on corners....Pedal like crazy.
Even then you will be shaking your head at how fast cedric and Morland are...and how fast they can get down.
Good luck.

Thanks guys...
I'm actually not going to race it (OK...maybe I'll look into it!) but was just wondering what the techniques would be, and seeing if I could use them on my normal laps.
Prejumping sounds like it will take alot of getting used to...how to do it correctly, and how to get it feeling normal. That concept seems pretty foreign to me at this point.

pick up fundamentals man, super dope video, basicly a pre jump is where you hop before the lip, or drop, so that you clear the lip and land in the tranny.
if i were you i would forsure get fundamentels!

Running A-Line this way is not really fun. It is hard work and takes all the airtime out. The trail was not really meant to be ridden this way.
The other issue is other people on the trail, you tend to close in pretty fast and have to pass a million riders.
It is nice however to have the skill sin the bag to gas up and go when you want to get by someone or just feel like dusting some guy on your butt that might be complaining.

go to your local BMX track, that is the best place to practice prejumping and pumping, and keeping your bike low.

I've entered for some reason and am well nervous about this race, even though it's not that hard a course! I have a feeling the red mist will descend and I'll crash hard. More positive thoughts required.
I'm aiming for a 4min 10 sec time. :)
(Seriously, less than 5 mins I'll be laughing).

I think I'll find a place on-course and watch how the fast guys do it. Should be fun.

don't be nervous. it's actually the only time of the year that you'll have the chance to rip the trail the way you always wanted to. Reason..? no one else on the trail. you don't have to worry about passing anyone or coming up on anyone who's wiped out. It is a cool sensation chasing the whistle down the course. just giver the way you would on your best day and enjoy the hell out of it. I ran it in 2002 and had a blast. I tried my hardest but still took the time to feel the love, while other friends of mine took the opportunity to style out evey jump and just have a big ol fun time. Focus hard on what you're doing and all will go well. See you up there i'm racing in the Masters class. Beware the fat old guy that's out to kick ass.
