i think most freeriders ride middle-of-the-foot pedaling style eh? but when you look at the clip in shoes, the clips are on the front of the foot. why so? i find it so uncomfortable to ride like that. most xc'ers i see w/o clipless ride like that too...
how do you guys ride? flat footed style? on your toes? on your heels like some freak?

When riding down town I always go in highest gear, it's so dramatic that way :D  :thepimp:
edit: on flat ground, going 3km/h

u can get alot more leverage if u r pedal is where it is for clips, more power but ull twist the crap outa u rankles on drops wiht clips i have my feet are centered over the pedal then u can sorta grasp it sorta

shit son...easy on the reefer there....i pedal on the ball of my foot..where clips go...i dunno i find i cant pedal on my arch for too long...plus you can push with your ankles when using the ball of ur foot.

i would not recomend jumping/droping on the balls of your feet because it creates to much leverage and can really damage your achilles tendon

well first the right foot goes down...and then the left comes up at the same time...then opposite and repeat...
seriously center foot on pedal...way better

yea, center of the foot over the axle. The clip is in that place cuz oyu can push down by bending your ankle = more pedalling power.

I'm on the balls all the time no matter what. After a while and some working out it doesn't affect your ankles at all.

I heard this on tv or read it somewhere but the person said it is more efficient to pedal using the toe/front ball of your foot and is easier and you get more power.
If you do drops and other stunts riding with your feet in that position they will slip back and the pedal will slam into your shin..and that is why freeriders like us use the middle of our foot to reduce slippage.
PS: 1). When riding up hill or to and from places try to use the foreward ball of your foot
2). When doing stunts and normal "freeriding" use the center of your foot
3). Wear "skate" style shoes and it won't feel wierd like wearing those runners when biking;)

I ride with my pedal between the middle and ball, best of both worlds, way more efficient on the ball of your foot though, but I mainly ride downhill w/ my seat lower than the optimal XC height so efficiency dosn't really matter now does it. With more weight on the center of the foot, it seems to slip off less so I run in between for comfort, not any other reason.
the middle, you will screw up ur foot if its on the front of ur foot. maybe its ok if u workout, etc. for it as fcf said, but i would still stay with the centre.:)

Its best for freeriding to ride with your foot in the middle of the pedal. otherwise you well murder your ankles.

middle of the foot.
using the ball of your foot is only to increase more power. but causes disaster if used for freeriding
