"The Jim Beam Air Downhill is in its 5th year as Whistler summer staple. This year it's almost 3X the length, starting at the top of the brand new Freight Train Trail and continuing onto A-Line - descending 3,400 feet over more than 200 tables, drops, berms and rolls then ending in Whistler Village."
this certainly puts a new face on the racing endevours. I was thinking of racing but that's an awfully long way to hang on, let alone race. It's more like a test of survival. eeesh. don't get me wrong, it will be a wicked course. but can anyone remember the sequence on a run that long? how bout when your tired? I predict lots and lots of carnage. find your prime viewing spots boys and girls this could be ugly.
kinda ruins a perfectly good race too. At least the a-line race was accessable to most. this version...not so much.

Your in luck cause we ain't racing the Train as it isn't done yet. For all ya'll racing the courses are as follows from what I hear:
Air DH - old school as in the past a 4 minute rip down everyones favorite Aline
Enduro DH - Upper Freight Train-No Joke-Duffman-SideTrack to something at the bottom, probably World Cup Singletrack-Ho Chi Man-Heart of Darkness
BX- this one is obvious. SO there ya go don't believe everything ya read at that site, it says the online reg is supposed to be open by now. And why would the 3400 verticle race be only accessible to the few, a whole bunch of dudes and dudettes ripped No Joke-Duffman- WCT-HoChiMan-Hornet last year for the Garbo DH, that was fun.....

Cause it makes it a whole lot tougher for the over 35 and recovering from multiple surgery crowd. ;). good to hear about the old skool A-line race. guess I'm racing after all. :) Beware all. there's 235lbs( + gear + bike...scary really) of love gunning for the podium. At least I've got a whole year to get ready for the full meal deal next year. kick ass :)

Same BS as last year.....i have no idea why Whistler can`t get their act together with registration......not to mention the supposide changes to the structure of the races.
How hard would it be to post some updated info on their web site?
Step it up Whistler!!

as close as you want...it all depends on how well you know the riders. I saw guys getting yelled at to get behind the tape because they were just random filmers shooting for random stuff.
on the other hand if you know people and you are shooting specific shit then its open season. its basically like going to the Rampage or the Bike Battle...talk to the riders and see what and where they are doing shit and then you can get your angle and what not.
hope that helps.

in that case just introduce yourself to whoever you want to film and tell them what you're doing. Basically anyone with a 3-Chip camera can get space on the course.

Hey guys, just a heads up about filming this year for Crankworx. It will not be a repeat of last years "anyone with a 3 chip camera on course". That got out of hand. During training and during regular hours, it'll be easy to get on course to film. For the safety of the riders, spectators and filmers, only accredited media will be allowed on course during the contests, and its not as easy to get a media pass as last year. Check out the website for details, but don't expect to show up on Saturday night with your digi and stand in the middle of the course like last year.
Having said that, there will be lots of action in the slopestyle course starting Wednesday right through Saturday afternoon that will be easy access for those looking to film. Saturday night will be a different story.
See you all there, its going to be sick

hmm well i may looka likea kid but i seriously hope no one doubts my abilities or gives me a hard time. i've been filming riders for quite a while, including a few large scale events. i think that if i can film in the skate barn with hundreds of riders flying around and never have a complaint or close call i should be able to handle a fairly big ass mountain hillside.
i dunno, that's what i'm thinking. it's too bad they let it be a bit too loose last year.
but after all, it's not so much the angles and shots you get, but how you put it all together afterwords. i think it's safe to say most people there can't edit worth a poo.

08-05-2005, 02:34 AM
i hope the people sneaking on course to take some snapshots get a bike ditched at them for cheating out the rules (sorry im grumpy). the people who deserve to be there inside the taped off areas are the ones who will be there with their proper media passes. Not joe and jane average who have think that just because you have a dslr and have shot a few "good" snapshots with friends last month that you are all of a sudden worthy of walking right on course to take some neato pictures for yourself. the whole idea behind the media pass is to be a select part of the media granted access to areas not available to the public...ie someone taking pictures or filming to later make a profit from, and therefore make a living off.
i hope whistler will ensure the safety of the riders by securing the areas where people could possibly sneak on and try to take pictures and inadvertantly get in the way even though they think they are not.

too much speed, not enough downward pressure on the pedals. in case anyone was wondering, yes the top edge of the whistler berms are as hard as the centre. still hurts to breathe deep, cough (pain medication, ya know;) , sneeze etc. but managed to climb on the bike yesterday and while I can ride, it is not with a whole lotta presence. nose wheelies and nose pick are out of the question. day by day, 18 more days to go.
