Day 4 on the road, doing a west coast promo trip for Banshee Bikes. i met schaefdog and zip tie in seattle which was really cool, they're awesome guys and they helped me figure out what shops to visit.

i checked out the skate barn in seattle, wow!!! someone in vancouver should do something like that. it blew my mind. calling all budding business people.

i had a total white knuckle drive last night. the whole of western washington and oregon was flooding and the interstate freeway was a nightmare. 70mph and you couldn't even see the road from the spray.

i'm in hood river oregon today, home to some of the best windsurfing in the world. i lived here for 5 summers so it's pretty fun to be back. my dog went crazy when i took him down to the river for a swim. i'm going for dinner with some friends tonight.

freeriding in the usa seems to be in its infancy, compared to what's happening in western canada. there seems to be more emphasis on dh racing than freeride. there's some guys who are just as hard core as you guys on the shore but it's not a culture like at home. bmx is really big so i guess when those guys get a little older freeriding is gonna take off.

anyway, that's it for now. i'll post again when i get a chance.

pip

Hey... that is so cool Pip. I bet you give them all a little eye opener when they see how burly your bikes are.

Keep it coming....it's pretty interesting and it gives us a chance to travel with you without taking up any space. :D

pip - if you're still at the wine bar, check out the offerings from Ken Wright Cellars. Ken is my dads brother-inlaw, and is a really cool guy. the 1999 Abbey Ridge is a family favorite. i don't care for any of it (but i don't like any wine anyway), but the 'rents LOVE it, as do my other aunts/uncles, and grandparents.

Ordering glasses of different fine wines, getting sloshed, and browsing the Internet. Sounds good to me.

HEYPIP:
You know what you said about the culture of riding in the US? That is exactly what is happening here in Ont/Quebec. All Bromont DHing. Nobody really wants to explore the hills without ski lift access. And there are lots of potential places near me in Hull/Gatineau. So your marketing here will be a bit different, unless a freeriding scene develops here. Some guys are trying to work on it, but it doesn't come naturally to them. The shops here don't even have group rides for god's sake. I have suggested this to them several times... Though I know you have a distributor in the area, there is something they just don't get about freeriding in this part of the country.

I will be returning to Vancouver in a couple of years to start another business. The one here is going OK, but I miss my home. Too bad I haven't been on a skateboard in 30 years.

HEYPIP, are you coming to Ohio while you are in the states?
Just curious, I know a really good shop for you to visit. Maybe you could break up some of the bordem around here?

Pip,

It was sick to have time to hang out this time. The day i got the spring we were so rushed to get riding. Its good to hear your trip is going well. I know the olympia shops were really impressed.

Take care,
