Allright all you North Shore veterans me and my brother will be travelling to Vancouver to stay with our uncle on the north shore from july 2-7. We will be bringing our bikes on the plane in some hard bike case things. Anyways, first, what should I know before coming so I can plan for it before we get there.
2)What types of tools, clothes/ armour should I bring with me?
3)Where is a good bike shop that is located on the north shore or close to it in case we have any bike problems we can't fix?
4)And finally what are some of the best trails to start out on and move onto as we get used to the riding?
I would say me and my brother are both intermediate riders. We can do most things but we realize when things get too hard and are willing to walk. Anyways any advice would be helpful. My uncle and aunt live on redfern place or somethin on the north shore and we may be able to get rides but if not does anyone know the length of bike ride from here? Its not too far from lonsdale I believe. Thanks.

clothing that wicks, if you sweet the moisture gos to outside, and same thing in the rain and a rain shell. When its rainy here it isnt that cold so its easy to over heat in shitty weather. and whatever tools u would normally use.

Do you think I should bring a full toolbox or just a multitool and if needed bring the bike to a shop? We'll have to assemble the bikes when we get there so I know we will need some allen keys.

I just read through all of those links you gave me and there wasn't really any opinions on some intermediate level trails. Me and my brother have been riding for a while and definately aren't beginners. Can anyone suggest some intermediate level trails.

The easiest trails on the Shore are the equivalent to medium to hard difficulty anywhere else in the world - keep that in mind.

skimtb1

now lets not say anywhere else in the world. how about east of the rockies?

skimtb1 has gotta point there.
West of the Rockies the trails definately ramp up on the difficulty scale, generally speaking.

Huge generalization, but all the while, you guys should try out our "beginner" trails and see how it goes from there.
7th, Leppard, Krinkum Krankum loop, Pipeline on Fromme I'd recommend.

Definitely start with the 7th, etc. loop. Fun & challenging, but not deadly.

exactly
the most difficult blue mountain trail is nothing compared to the beginner shore trails.

we'll probably end up taking the beginner trails first anyway. I was just wondering what the best intermediate level trails were when we got that far. Thanks for the info so far. Does anyone think its worth it to bring a full toolbox.

Show up at the hill. Talk to people. Derwood had good suggestions. Have fun.

I'd bring a comprehensive tool kit, but I'd rather buy parts and fix the problem rather than pay someone else. I suppose it depends on how much luggage space you have.
Lots of shops on the Shore. The Cove has two locations, John Henry's, Dizzy on lower Lonsdale, BSP in Lynn Valley, On Top on upper Lonsdale, and Steed on Marine Dr. are a few of the main ones.
Clothes - I wear cool max t-shirts in the summer and carry a water repellant windbreaker in my hydro pack. It can get cool depending on the elevation if the weather is crappy.
Trail wise I'd start on Seymour to get the feel of things and then move to Fromme. the CBC, Pingu, Pangor combination is a good long descent that will help you gauge your abilities. Neds is another good first trail. As a pre-shore warmup you could try Burnaby Mtn. (Simon Fraser University). park on North Road and ride dead moped, Joes and descend on Mels and Nicoles.
Enjoy your trip.

thanks dirttorpedo you answered all of my questions and were very helpful.
Incorrigigible I'll probably talk to people on the hill as well I just wanted to get an idea of what trails were good so I could look up were they were before I got there.

A good thing about Bby. Mt. is that there are regular buses which can take you to the top. A toonie and you're set.

Once you head up Fromme, you can't miss the trails. The trailheads are obvious, and most of them (the ones you're gonna wanna hit) will all have nice signs donated by MEC saying what the trail is.

thats funny my mothers maiden name is anti trail nazi!
alomst any problem can be fixed quickly by one of the sever shops on the shore, it just depends whether you have having other people work on your bike. If you do, chances are you are going to want to bring a full tool kit, but if not, just take the stuff you would take on a long ride.

thanks M@M I'll probably bring a small tool kit that can fix most things. If something goes really wrong I probably won't be able to fix it myself anyway so I'll just bring it in anyway.
