A friend mentioned to me yesterday that there is a rumour going around that Grouse Mtn. has applied for a land use permit with GVRD to enclose a 5 acre site to house the grizzlys ......guess where....in the same location as 7th and UOC....

Somebody tell me she was told a fib.....

seems nuts since the entrance to 7th is so far away from all the other grouse facilities. in the google link posted above, you can see the gravel pit, the upper entrance to 7th is a good distance east of that.

After that "Circle of Life" fiasco (http://www.nsnews.com/issues05/w052205/054305/news/054305nn1.html) on Grouse I think they should pen in the Grizzlies and let the wolf pack run free. I wouldn't want to be killed by a big slobbery Grizzly on a ride ... getting run down and torn to pieces by a pack of wolves would be a lot more interesting. D.

that sounds very random. It is too far away from the rest of their facilities and we all know a big part of having the bears right there on the mountain is the tourist pull. but if by some crazy way this would actually happen, what a good incentive to ride fast and not fall.

The idea is a black bear rehabilitation area and it would be located on the back of Fromme so not at the cost of trails. Something like $400K coming from the province.

Either way not the best idea - isn't even endorsed by the local bear advocates. Shows the attention big buisiness (Grouse Mtn) has of the government.

We could build some sweet trails for $400K.

I heard that Grouse is working on a way to service Fromme from above and thereby shuttling people via their current facilities onto the current trail network. The individual did not explain how the riders would get back to the gondola but they were clear that Grouse was spending time trying to figure out how to take advantage of their land around Fromme and all the trails already established on Fromme.

Hey, I just had a brilliant idea! We have a bear problem. We have a landfill problem. Why don't we fence off the landfill site, catch garbage bears and dump them there. Its win-win. The bears are busy eating all the garbage, so no more garbage, no more bears in the neighbourhoods. Happy residents. The bears think the've died and gone to heaven (which would happen in any case). Happy bears. Happy bears, happy people - Nature is Balanced. The Circle of Life is Complete. Time to send another kook email to Council (with special attention to Counciller Crist). D.

Increase exposure and attempt to validate their current Zoo.

Using the logger show amphitheater they already have up there, they could put on Roman Coliseum type shows, Grizzley vs. Car Thief & Wolf vs. Bike Thief. That would attract lots of people to pay the fee to ride up the up the Gondola.
