I'v just lost my motivation to shred the mountains these days. its been a good 2-3 months since i've been on a real trail ride. All of my riding buddies have slipped out of the scene never touching their bikes. I ride my bmx quite a bit still and enjoy that alot. but then there will be times when i miss purity of a good run down some nice single track. But when i just get frustraited when i do try to ride because of the immense diffrence in riding between a 50 pound dually and a 25 pound bmx..What do you guys do when the fire just isn't there anymore.... I need somthing new new riders new trails perhaps a new less tankish bike. all thoughts welcome

i never had that problem. if you've lost motivation then my guess is you've lost interest, maybe a new bike would rekindle that flame.

All I can reccomend is just doing it, take an easy run at first(so you get used to the duallie).
Then try going down harder and harder ones, and you should get pretty stoked.

If you have the fire, its always there. It just burns at different intensities.
You want to stoke the fire?
Go out with some good riding friends, and go shred a nice, easy, fast flowing trail. Carve some nice corners and have some fun.

Good call on the fast & flowy.
I found super heavy bikes to be a buzz-kill. Mabye try someone else's lighter bike. For me they make more of the trail usable for playing around with as opposed to plowing over everything, only having to pay attention to the really big objects. And you don't have to mach 9 everywhere (which is hard on a 50 pounder unless you're pointing directly downhill) in order to be really enjoying the bikes best attributes.
But hey, lots of people like huge bikes, mabye a new trail would fuel your stoke.
Good luck!

maybe you just need to lighten up that heavy bike a little, change some parts and shed some weight.
sometimes a break isn't a bad thing though. i've never lost my intensity to ride, when i'm injured and can't, it drives me insane, but i'm trying hard to see where you're coming from :D

Get a road bike, all spandied up, and go do a century with lots of hills. Or climb a cat 5 mountain and hit 90kms going back down. Fun fun.

Or just do whatever makes you happy. Biking may not in fact be for everyone. If skateboarding is appealing to you right now go skateboarding. If it's music go play a guitar. Just do whatever you feel like with your free time. Then in a year or two when you feel like biking again come back to biking. You'll always be welcome...

Get a FR HT and spend some time with that on some trails.

I agree with skunkworks, try a lighter, more BMX inspired freeride hardtail to make it easier to cross back and forth. Also try to find new riding buddies, because, although it can be fun once in awhile, trail rides aren't nearly as fun when you're not riding with some good friends.

Depending on your approach, a great resource is either a click or two away. Spend some time in the Ride Planning and Tales forum on these very boards!
Personally, I rarely lose my stoke. If there is a time I need motivation - or just extra motivation - I just roast a phatty and pop some riding vids on. I'm usually out the door before the second vid is halfway done.

i felt the same way for the longest time. i still liked biking but lacked motivation to go ride. one day up at whistler changed all that for me. the fire to ride all kinds of bikes is stronger than ever.

Hey Nathan you should come out with us sometimes, BMX in the city, or bring the big bike and shred the mountains with me and Ben, there's only two weekends of Prevost shuttles left before Scott heads out to the Kooteneys for a bit, I guarantee I'm gonna be riding as much as I can, so me and you should hook up sometime.

Like everyone said, get a good riding crew and a new bike usually will re-ignite the fire. Of course, I have never had that problem before because juggling between work and family I can only go out twice a week. So, I'm always stoke just to go on a ride.

Injure yourself. Seriously. I had the same problem about midway through last summer. Then I broke my ankle at the end of July, and from day one of being off the bike wanted to do nothing but ride again. It's one of those you don't realize how much you miss it until you can't do it anymore. I've never gotten that feeling since.
I just recently dislocated my shoulder and am starting to get back on the bike now, sadly not my .243, but instead my Dad's Brodie XC bike that I've put hookworms on for the roads and am hauling around on that and I gotta say that's tons of fun in itself. I freaking love it.

Yup, having your ride stare at you everyday while you're injured tend to be a great motivator.
If you're healthy and are having trouble getting pumped... buy a new ride :D

i agree with tom, i lost the fire a year ago, then i went on a whim to whistler and hung out and rode with a buddy for the august long weekend and saw the collective for the first time, needless to say i'm thoroughly addicted again, so i prescribe a trip to whistler and some mountain bike videos
