OKAY ... apparently I "don't ride XC so I don't give a shit about XC trails". For those who really ride and really give a shit, a picture pop quiz (Hint: the official answer to many is "I can tell you, but then I'd have to kill you")
State the location of each of the following pictures:
Exhibit A

You're *good* considering some of them could really be a bunch of places ...
A) - Lynne Creek is it ... next to St Denis Street
B) Wrong -its Brother's Creek Trail
C) Lookout above Camp Brick (where I never ride)
D), E) - Correct
F) Wrong - Trail onto the powerline service road below Camp Brick
G) This trail is now the Seymour Filtration Plant Site
H), I), J) Correct - Beyond the Spur Road Bridge
K) Damn! You got it! - BUT can you name the horse? (Hint: he's a Belgian Draft Horse).
Hike-a-bike trail exploration is fun. D.

Both these gentlemen are correct. Some more eye candy for you mainlanders!

How so?
I would guess (only they can really tell you) they wonder if it could handle stress of the 100-riders-an-hour-rates that trails like CBC on Fromme see on busy weekends. Basically function takes over form, and everything is built handle stress and wear - the craftsman appeal becomes secondary (read: "It starts to look ugly, but it holds up well"). D.

Loamy (I assume you refers to the black organics-laden soil) descent is a sign - a sign that a long, painful, soul-destroying ride/push climb is required to access the trailhead. D. :agree:

Here's a grainy vid of the curved section.
right click - save as (http://web.uvic.ca/~sloken/dc_2.mpg)
This is the step up which leads into the rock section.
from behind (http://web.uvic.ca/~sloken/strahan_newstep1.mpg)
from the side (http://web.uvic.ca/~sloken/strahan_newstep2.mpg)
Course it's much smoother now that this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/strahan/Sooke_Buidling/feature26a.jpg) has been added to the run in.

That's pretty cool. The step-up seems huge in real life. I like the birdsong background soundtrack, too! D.

Building that down ramp was a backbreaking day. Those deadfall hemlock came from ~40m down the crossing trail.
