No..but as it gets more dusty, they really work best.
If its muddy, yes. If its dry they are nice to have for the dust, but not necessary.

I need them because my eyes water when I go fast and the dust doesnt help. It depends really.

It's not too bad riding without, but better riding with. It took me a few rides to get comfortable with them.

I rode all last year and all the year before without goggles on whistler and I always wished I had them for 3 reasons: mud/rain, dust, and they look cool.
This year i picked some up at the local moto shop and I love them, work really good. Sweat a little more but its a sacrifice.

Most people just use MTB goggles or snowboard gogs with different lenses.

Check out www.ebay.com for cheap goggles. You can always find a screaming deal, or you could always swing by your local bike and/or moto store for some. You can spend anywhere from $30 bucks to over $150, depending on frame and lens combos.
Depends on how comfy they are, and what they come with; soft clothe for wiping your lense off, or a hard case. Doesn't hurt to ask questions

When i was at whistler i needed eye protectiong, sunglasses or goggles... My eyes water to much from speed and dust, i spend half the time blinking and almost crashing without em.

MX goggles are cheap. If you can afford a Whistler lift pass, you can definitely afford a set of biking/MX goggles.
They're around $30-60 for the decent ones. But fancier lens combos can go up to over the $160 mark.

I go to WorkWorld and buy a pair of safety glasses with clear lenses. They cost 7 dollars, and keep the dust, mud, and wind out of my eyes.
