I know, I know, but........

Is there a pedalable, climbable route to access the Bike park or is the chair the only way?

as good as the riding is , one of the main things you are paying for is the lift up . . . .

you ARE paying , right ?

but what about those climbing up to kyb's/ride don't slide? my understanding as been that as long as it isn't folks in full armour and fullfaces, xc riders are typically allowed to still climb up to access these trails.....via the road....

I don't want to ride up the park trails.

I want to know if I can ride up a road or something to access, say A-line or
something.

I like to climb hard and then have a nice flow down.--sue me.

Are you still going to pay for the lift pass?

ok buzz , calm down .

for those who would like to pedal up the hill to access trails beyond the park ( the Khyber Pass , for instance . . . . never heard of kybs , is that a coffee shop in kits ? ) mountain staff generally turn a blind eye to riders using the mountain access road , so long as they understand that they are travelling on a road designated for vehicular traffic of all types , sizes , speeds , visibility , manoueverability and respect it as such . keep to one side , single file where appropriate and get it done .

as for climbing up and riding down designated WBP trails . . . hey , if you have a pass and that is how you want to get up the hill . . . . might seem a little weird , but . . . whatever turns your cranks , i guess , but be prepared to show your pass if asked .

if you don't have a pass that is a different story . without the pass you have not entered into a legal agreement with the corporation to use the improvements that have been constructed , and in todays' ugly litigious climate you are leaving yourself WIDE open to legal attack ( for want of a better term ) should you be involved in an incident , whether or not you are at fault . this would be one very good reason why you would not want to be riding up , say , easy does it , to avoid detection .

there is also a little matter generally referred to as poaching . no matter how you feel about the big corp , the fact is we are trying to run a business here . we think we are doing a pretty good job . the sale of day tickets and passes goes to pay for the construction of those great trails , the equipment to build and maintain them , the lifts that get you up there , and the wages of all the people who do the various jobs up there . it ain't cheap !
we work hard to provide you with an experience that we think is good value , so please continue to support us . we like to hear how we are doing , and this BB has been great for both sides of this relationship .
i'm not a lawyer , nor do i want to be one , so i'm not going to expand on the occupiers liability act , and all that legal mumbo jumbo , so don't expect any .

one last point : climbing hard for a nice flow down ? there are trails all over this planet where you can do that , and a whole bunch of people do . . . . .

well said patrolskid.

I do know of locals who climb up when the lifts are closed for the ride down.

Personally, i'd rather ride the other xc trails in whistler.

1)I am very familiar with the other trails of Whistler/Pemberton/Squamish

2)I have lived there before.

3)I would not dream of "poaching" as I am an advocate of all "corps" that put mountain biking and sustainability in the same corporate-moto sentence.

4)I am moving to Whistler next week for a career opp. and wish to custom fit some wicked loops into my busy work week.

5)I just really love to pedal my big heavy bike up a long and savage switch-back climb with my pads on my back and my helmet on my bars for the sake of an air rich and berm infested flow back to my house or if necassary my car.

--if there are such trails in Whistler itself please advise and I will only tread on the park via the chair.

hey buzz , i hear ya , i like a good grovel session as much as the next the guy , maybe more . after that you really savor the downhill sweetness .

maybe that stuff up cougar and down to the highway is what you are looking for . . .

in no way was my last post meant as a rant or attack , i just saw it as an opportunity to say some things that MAYBE needed to be said , so i said them . thanks for taking them in the light in which they were intended . . . . . .

The muni has recently buffed out the trails around Cheakamus river, up one side down the other, up to loggers, down the recently buffed out trail - yield to uphillers and hikers!

Its a great easy flowy up and down rip.

The fact that the MUNICIPALITY is buffing trails around town is exactly why Whistler kicks so much ass. I mean, look at those dirt jumps. From what I understand, that was the municipality too.

As for riding up in general, I like it sometimes & understand the reward part of it, etc. But dragging my ass all the way up to A-Line for the -- what? -- 5 or 10 mins it would take to come down (as fun as it would be) doesn't quite seem worth it to me. That chair covers an awful lot of vertical.

.

the whistler muni ROCKS.

They hired chris markle (sp?) the guy who built KMTM and Comfortably numb to build the single track trails in lost lake!

This is what can happen with a forward thinking informed council and staff without the NIMBY factor.

The DNV could learn A LOT from the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

Tunnel Vision on the south end of town might be another trail you would be interested in. You have your choice of several different climbing routes and are then rewarded with a flowy ride back down. Check it out - I think you'll like it.

did that wed. night....climbed the road to kadenwood, then the old fsr up into the clearcut.....missed the turn, climbed halfway up to babylon before turning around, then ripped TV! it's pretty fun now, they've added some flowy ladderbridge drops and a tettertotter....great afterwork cruise!

WORCA hired chris this year for our maintenace contract.....we recieved a 24000 dollar grant from the muni for that as well! this town does kick ass!

Where are you going to be living Buzzes? Depending where in the valley that is going to be, chances are you are going to be able to connect some good uphills with flowy downhills and maybe even land you right back at your beer fridge! Some have been mentioned already in this thread. Lots of stuff on the west side of the valley and if you haven't ridden Comfortably Numb yet, you'll have to give that a try. :dizzy:

Thanks eveyone!
We will be living in the Creekside area.

I have been told that Rob Boyd's trail is supposed to be fun and may end up at my always heavily stocked BEER FRIDGE!
--is anyone aware of the location and style of this track?

ride , don't slide . . . . .as fun as it might be , that trail should be the poster child for how NOT to design / build a trail .

but what do you expect of a trail that was conceived on a trials ( engine included ) bike , going uphill . that trail is a waste of space , the kind of thing the sierra club uses to throw shit at us with . . . .

not so bad before garby made it easy for bigbike shredders to push up to it....but yeah, definitely not designed for the heavy use it gets now....a shame, because that's some of the coolest forest around to ride through....
