I'm heading out there in june and my brother isn't sure whether or not he should bring his hardtail. he has a 2004 norco manik http://www.norco.com/bikes/2004bikes/manik.htm
that is stock except for 26/24 doublewides and an e.13 srs. we're staying for two weeks, so bringing his bike would save major cash from rentals. so, should he rent the kona stabs that they have there or bring his own bike?

that depends whether hes a pussy regarding braking bumps and other kinds of bumps. I just got back from whistler yesterday. I rode the whole day, 10 to 5 on my ht, and other than my fingers hurting, it was an awsome ride.

Whistler is fine on a ht, it would be crazy to waste that much money on rentals when he has a bike completley capable

you would be spending 14 hundred dollars on rental bikes, I would bring your own.

I rode whistler on a XC HT frame. My bike is completely fine 'cept for the cranks but they were about to go anyway. A Norco Manik would kick the ass of my bike. I know I only went to whistler once this year, but I'll go again. I might have the same frame. I might break it next time around...

i rode whistler from 10-50 like the guy above on my hardtail with a dj2 that hardly works, the brake bumps are bad, but if you suck it up, its not that bad

I just want to remind you that we'll be there for two weeks. obviously it's easy to ride for a day on a ht, but will it be enjoyable for such a long period of time? also, will garbanzo be doable on a ht? thanks in advance!

how about your bro brings his bike rides it and if he doesn't like it or needs a break from it rent a fully for a day or two then go back to the ht. seems simple to me.

i used have lx v brake and half a sis v brake, and up front like a 10 dollar no name brake. my fingers hurt sooo bad, but it was worth it and id do it for two weeks if it was that or spending a lot of money on a stupid rental. At the price it would cost to rent just sell the manik and buy a new bike itd be barely more expensive.

yes its doable...but yeah u want to stretch b4 u ride.. and go low on airpressure for rear.. tahts what i do but not too low.. i dont want to feel the braking bump completely... less air pressure helps a bit. but for 2 weeks hmmm i duno... ur legs will hurt like hell for the first couple runs. esp down b-line, god i hate that open section.

last year i did 4 days in a row, high rollers at 50psi(no flats) and a shitty dj3. garbanzo and everything else was easy.....just go fast through the brake bumps.

ps: my thigh on my back leg was in horrible pain during the nights, but just eat advil.

He should be fine on his HT. Now when you say your going for 2 weeks, are you planning on riding for 14 days straight? If you do your a crazy man. I am planning on going in June and only for a week. Out of that we will only be riding probably 4-5 days. That will be plenty of riding. You don't want to beet yourself down to much so that its not enjoyable. If your there for 2 weeks, I would ride 2 days on 1 day off. Give the body time to rest.

On monday I rode down aline on a norco pinacle with a rigid fork, front vee brake and a taco'ed rear wheel. All i will say is it was the most fun i have had on a bike.. other then the fact i thought the bike was gonna explode in the air.

Yeah, if you want to explore anything beyond the park, and there's allot out there, a hardtail will be very versatile...

I put a whole season on my hardtail last year, and will again this year. It's a little Balfa Minuteman with a lamo 03 DJII.

It's fine...just hurts a bit more. I spent alot of time on Garbonzo on my HT last year, and cleaned pretty much everything (except Captain Safety I think) at some point.

Don't rent. If you're going to spend that kind of money on rentals, just buy a Transition Dirtbag frame and transfer your parts. It'll cost the same, and you'll have a new frame to boot.

and of course ride the shore if you come on a ht. that is more fun than whistler on a ht.
