UPDATED FOR SUMMER 2008

Greetings all Whistler pilgrims!

I notice that a lot of threads popping up on here asking about cheap accommodation. I figure that I might as well make one thread, and then we can point everyone here when they ask.

I'll post up what I know. Feel free to add what you've found to be cheap.

Camping:

There's a thread about that here (http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=58738), and the site for the actual campground, a 5-7 min ride from the Village
is here. (http://www.whistlercamping.com/home.html)

Hostels:

The Fireside Lodge is pretty good. It's in the Nordic neighborhood, close to Creekside. It's about 5 mins away from the action. You'll find them here. (http://www.firesidelodge.org/)

The UBC Lodge is open to everyone (not just UBCers) and is also in Nordic. You can find them here. (http://www.ams.ubc.ca/content.cfm?ID=61)

The HI Whistler Hostel is good too. It's about 5 minutes from the lifts by car, maybe 15 on a bike. You can find out about it here. (http://www.hihostels.ca/PM/en/whistlerhostel.aspx?sortcode=2.15) It's across the lake from Whistler Village though, and bus service to get there is pretty weak.

Southside Lodge has a great diner in it! It's in Creekside right on the highway and has a few rooms. Find all your info here. (http://www.southsidelodge.com/)

Alta Vista Lodge. Unfortunately, the Lodge will close for the 2008 season at the end of August. Hopefully this popular spot will be up and running again next year.

Really cheap accom:

WhistlerBlackcomb Staff Housing-$10ish a night last year. This year ( 2008 ) WB will only offer beds to non-WB employees at its Glacier Park location (Base 2) and will only offer them mid-August to the end of September. There will be lift ticket/bed packages available at that time too. For more info, call them at (604)938-7500 x1, but not until mid-May because they'll be slammed with other things until then.

Cheap accom:

Whistler Resort and Club. Rates are pretty cheap in the summer. It's in Creekside though, a 5 minute drive from the village and most of the action. It has an indoor hot tub. You'll find the rates here. (http://www.whistlerresortandclub.com/whistler-hotel-rates.php)

Inside Edge Club lodge is an option that may work if you're up more than once a summer. You have to join the club for $85 but you get one night at the lodge free. After that it is only $30 for Saturday night or $45 for Friday and Saturday. They are located in Nester's and have a secure place to lock your bike. Check the web site if you're interested here. (http://www.insideedgeclub.bc.ca/)

Normal accom:

The Summit Lodge (http://www.summitlodge.com/), between the new library and the 7-11, is a good bet. They allow pets, even monstrous dogs. Their Queen Studio with kitchenette runs about $150/night in the bike season, and can fit a small family. Alcohol is allowed at their outdoor pool and hot tub. They have bike storage.

The Woodrun on Blackcomb (http://www.resortquestwhistler.com/rental/complex.html?ID=44") looks solid. Units sleep 6 people and cost $169 - $189 during biking season. If you stay, use the back path on the ski run...it's a hundred times faster than riding up the road! And tell us what their bike storage is like too.

The nearby Aspens on Blackcomb (http://www.resortquestwhistler.com/rental/complex.html?ID=6") has gotten good reviews from riders on this site. It's one property away from the Woodrun above, and has more units. Prices are similar.

Condos

AlluraDirect. I have no experience with this website, but people on the boards have used it. Word is that condos and apartments can be found and rented for good prices. The site is here. (http://www.alluradirect.com/whistler/)

So far, that's what I can think of off the top of my head. Hope it helps!

Cant believe you didnt even mention Lot 4. Thats where you'll find the really cheap travellers. Why spend your money on a room when you can use it at the pub after your ride.

PS the Westin Hotel has a sweet pool/hottub/sauna/shower setup that is an easy poach :bandit:

Why? (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Diffinitive) :???:

Both seem to be kosher.

*edit* I figure that 'definitive' looks better and that's probably the better way of doing it. I couldn't change it on the main title though.

It's still cheap at UBC, which was listed. What about bike security though??? I've stayed there, but never brought a bike, because it was before I mtn biked. Yes, I am too old to stay in a hostel, but I might be too broke to stay anywhere else one day.

When we stayed in Whistler last june we used http://www.alluradirect.com

We got an apartment in the Marquise in Blackcomb village for not very much money at all. You get a whole apartment, use of the pool, garage etc. Would be very easy to take your bikes inside as well for extra security.

Highly recommend it.

If you have a crew of 5 or 6 I rented a 2bdrm at Stoney Creek sunpath which ends up costing about $85 pp for 2 nights (this is during Crankworx too...there were cheaper rates earlier in the month) AND I have a BBQ, private hot tub, pool and only 5 min walk to the village. Plus it has a kitchen, washer/dryer etc .
Lots of good rates around

www.piquenewsmagazine.com Go to Classifieds, then to accom. Or something like that.

There are two sections, one for long term and one for short term. Check them both out, as the short term ones have had ads for one week, and also one season.

If you're going, you shoudln't have problems finding a place after the Ski and Snowboard Festival www.whistler2007.com , which ends on April 22 I think. That's when everyone leaves town (Aussies, etc), thinking Whistler sucks once the snow's gone. Really though, it only gets better!

I lived in staff housing at Brio, I liked it a lot got to meet new ppl and my roomates were pretty cool aside from when they decided to dry their socks and undies in the oven, but besides that it was pretty cool. Not the cleanest or nicest places but it was cheap, then I found a cheaper and cleaner place and I moved out in a heartbeat, but I amanged to surve a whole month there, so really no complains aside from the odd bear you meet going to work in the morning, but they are friendly as long as you don't piss them off. Plus STaff housing was the easiest starting point, then up garding was easier. Good luck.

Kev...go here.

www.piquenewsmagazine.com and go to the classifieds, then to accom.

Plus, staff housing can be a good, social, and cheap time if you're there for only the summer. LIke residence in university, you'll meet tonnes of people and have the time of your life. If you're over 20 though, you might not dig it, since most will be younger than you. Go to the WB site for that though.

Straw
06-22-2007, 05:08 PM
I think if you're sneaky about it, it's cool. I'd let guys bring their bikes up to their rooms, unless they rode in the halls or something stupid like that. We also had a bike check which only Front Desk agents had a key to. It was the Cascade Lodge. The last few years there was, don't know if there still is, a bike shop in the lobby, and you could check your bikes there.

I'd avoid the Tantalus lodge though, I remember hearing about quite a number of bikes being stolen from their storage space.

I also seem to remember that the Coast hotel is pretty casual about letting bikes into rooms.

Funny, even in Whistler some hotel workers don't understand that our bikes are more valued by us than our cars, if we own one.

Here's the scoop on WB Staff this year:

We are going to be full through until mid-August. From mid-August until the end of September we will be offering accommodations to non-WhistlerBlackcomb employees and will be offering the Play and Stay program also.

The best thing to do is have people call us at 604 938 7500 ext.1 – but we would ask that they contact us after May as we’re pretty flat out right now.

I’ll have prices ready during May. The accommodations we’ll be offering will be based at Glacier Park only.

I updated the front page.

so i'm confused, why does WBP suddenly hate locals and kick out everyone who was traditionally inclined to take up the staff housing? its a real bummer if ALL of the accomidation is going to be taken up for Crankworx, WSH is pretty much the only way I would have been able to afford racing.

still hoping for the best

Last two times we stayed up in Whistler overnight we stayed at the Summit Lodge. It's right off of the Village. We book the Queen Studio which has a small kitchen (microwave, stove, sink, fridge), living area with a pull out couch and the bed. Very reasonable at about $150/night. They've got bike lockup and they allow pets. We take our monster dog there with us. Last time we went up, we took our kids along and the four of us were very comfortable in the studio. It's got an outdoor pool and hot tub and they allow alcohol at them as long as you use their free plastic cups. I highly recommend it as an option.
