Kenda Blue Groove Stick-E single-ply front. 800 grams, 2.5", goes on and off the rim easily enough (can do it by hand on my 721 rims), great all-around front tire. I haven't found a tire that I liked better yet. Only complaint is that the amazingness wears out when the tire is still at 75% tread, and then it goes DOWN to the performance of other tires. So I guess even the minus is actually a plus...

Kyle,
Thats what I generally run. On my trail bike I run that still but one size smaller on both.

I prefer Maxxis Minion front and Michelin 2.5 rear
Don't know...when they get low I put air in them. That seems to work for me.

i had a 243 shore tire run at low pressure of the front an arrow racing prime wide 2.4 on the back.

all you people and your expensive tires, you dont need to spend money to get the best meat for you bike.
go to almost any local bike shop and pick up a 2.6 Vee Rubber STOUT. It will set you back about $15 maybe only $10 if you unlucky enough. Then put it on your bike, put it up to about 20 - 25 PSI and rip any trail. The STOUT is pretty much the best tire unless you gonne spend over 50 dollars on a michiline, gazzalodi, or what ever.

I used to always buy stouts and rokko tires, then i got a few maxxis tires and was blown away at how much smooter things felt. The tire makes the big difference as it is the only point of contact to the ground from the bike. That said i would run 2.5 maxxis highrollers.

i just put a 2.5 Nevegal Stick E front and 2.35 Kinetics Stick E rear. The bike felt like it was on rails on saturday, wet wood: no problem, rolls quick too.
However, I was on the good ole' 2.35kujo front/ 2.25 El Gato Rear combo for years before now, so you know what I had to compare with.

Is the Stout designed to be a rear only tire?

i have to say, they're not bad if you don't ride in the wet, but.. they roll slow, are lead-heavy, and slip on anything wet even if you're running 5psi.

I switched my sneakers at the end of last season. I put Maxxis High Roller Downhill double ply 2.7's on the front[26"] and rear[24"]. It just rails on Dirt Merchant and A-line. I used to ride Kenda's and Stout's and once they get worn....... hang on sucka.

No. Sorry. 25PSI and rip don't belong in the same sentence.

Can't go wrong with a high roller. But seriously 25psi, not cutting it, thats too soft

Anything that grips to the ground or the rider is important. Paying 30-50bux more for a good tire is worth the money, afterall it is you on the bike... Unless you don't have too much self-respect. Get a job.

So can anyone confirm they are a rear only tire? Or can they be used as a front as well?

When i go there this year i'm just gonna have a kenda k-rad on the front and a 24" hookworm on the back

As mentioned before anything over a 2.5" for Whistler is overkill. Basically a 2.5" anything will be good. 2.5 or 2.2" Comp 16 up front and 2.2" Comp 24 rear. If its wet and sloppy then maybe Comp 32 up front.

They are the same tread pattern but i use them for both. i would say they are a better front than rear though.
One day ill have nice tires,i just dont feel like dropping 100 for a set of tires when i could get a new double track for that and make my bike look sweet.

sorry to say that but i just spend 90 on a michelin comp 16 wildgripper 2.2 for the rear and there is no compare to what i had befor (kenda kinetic)
the grip is amasing feel realy solid and the ruber grips wet or dry !
It as been said befor the tires are the only contact between your bike and the trail ,its a realy important component !

Anything bigger than 2.5 for Whistler is overkill. Stay away from those Stout tires they are useless even for $10 or $15 you'd be better off getting a six pack of Coronas!!
why do people run more than 2.4 for whistler?
Because they only make 2.5 in some tires. :stupid:

I used to think this way and ran dual stouts for a season at whistler but once you try some higher quality tires you won't go back. There is difference

Im thinking about buying a set of Minons or Michilines.. but not sure which to go with. I also hear the Nevegal is a good tire.

For Whistler, you need the downhill casing on those tires with the wire bead. I pinched my front Nevegal 2.5 single ply on the second run down then had to run really high pessures the rest of the weekend. For everything else, they are good tires though.
I'm thinking Blue Groove DH front, then a Gazza 2.3" that came on my bike for the rear. I'm torn between 2.7 and 2.5 up front. This will be a summer only tire... I tend to push and chairlift when it's hot.

wire casing ? uhhhhhh , i don't think so
Alright, downhill casing / wire bead.

If you're going to run ghetto, go with the DH casing/wire bead. I went ghetto with some kevlars and was let down. They were great in the dirt and super light for riding up Fromme, but both tires bit it on rocks. The sidewall on the rear was cut by some rocks on Upper Whistler DH, and that pretty much ended my day. The front fell to the rocky runout at the end of CBC a week earlier.

because some of us ride more than A line

Because it's a higher air volume and has a bit more give before hearing the resounding clank of your rim bottoming out on a rock.

If it is dry and you skid allot then the Stout is a good rear tire because you are not going to be wasting your money on rubber.
If you don't skid allot, then for a fast rolling tire especially in the dry that is tried and true is a 2.5 or 2.7 Highroller
If you don't skid allot and want max traction the rear but not as fast rolling as the Highroller then a "brand new" 2.5 or 2.7 Kenda DH casing Nevegal is a good choice and is the best tire IMHO in the WET. (I say new because these are a soft tire and wear fast so the awesome grip is only going to last as long as you refrain from skidding)
For the front, I would say a High roller 2.5 or a Michelin 2.5 Comp 16 or a 2.5 Nevegal in the wet. Make sure it is a soft compound of the high roller if you are riding in the wet if you want max traction. The Michelin and Kenda are a soft compound to begin with.
This weekend I am running a Michelin 2.5 Comp 16 in the front and a 2.5 Nevegal in the rear.
Have a nice safe ride.

If you get free tires from maxxis or michelin. Anyone who says a vee rubber tire is as good as a maxxis etc, is either not railing hard enough to notice, or is to welfare to try the better tires. Kendas (even fat casing) pinch flat way easier than maxxis or michelin.

I just swapped out my beat down intense 909 2.5 on the front for a 2.5 minion f, holy crap this tire slays! even on the slippery goo and shmoo I never felt sketchy with it today, and where it wasn't slimy it hooked up like mad....I've never felt 100% with my cornering and today was the closest I've ever felt to that....such an amazing tire...wish I'd have got a second one to swap out my rear highroller....
