It would've been ok to put this in the Shore forum.
If you know what days you need...it never hurts to book it:)
Consider purchasing a Bro card. You get discounts on lift passes for riding aswell as accomodations. It'll pay for itself and then some, even just on a short trip.
(hey Cam...you should put me on the sales team! You can pay my commission with boxes of nails for my trail building or bike parts would work too  )

Stunna: I've used ownerdirect.com (http://www.ownerdirect.com) in the past for Whistler and other resorts. You can usually find something pretty reasonable...

Yes, book somewhere to stay. That's a long weekend out here. No, you don't need tickets to watch. Be aware that if you're coming out to ride, various parts of the mountain will be closed during the weekend for racing.
Get a BroCard and you can get discounts on hotels in Whistler - last summer it was $89/night with the card at the Coast Hotel.
Enjoy.

When choosing your hotel or whatever, make sure you do research where it is, what it has, etc etc etc. I work the front desk at one, and so many people show up without doing any research at all, and then complain that they're too far from the lifts, that they wanted a King bed, blah blah blah.
Everything is free, except to race. That gets expensive.
Realy cheap accom: Staff Housing-$10 a night. There's a thread on it here in the Whistler forum. Clickity (http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=58507)
Oh...there's tonnes of camping too. There's another thread about that too...Clack (http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=58738)
Cheap accom: Whistler Resort and Club (http://www.whistlerresortandclub.com/whistler-hotel-rates.php). Rates are pretty cheap in the summer. It's in Creekside though, a 5 minute drive from the village and most of the action.
Normal accom: Coast Whistler Hotel. Don't know prices, but some people on here have stayed, and it's cheap with a BroCard.
Expensive accom: Pretty much anywhere else.
And if you're driving from the airport, stop in Squamish and pick up food, since it's really expensive up here.
If you don't want to bring a bike, you can rent one from FanatykCo. They do Norco Shores /A-Lines / Sixes with Saint componentry. They have mechanics that take care of their rental fleet, so you can be sure of a good running rental, even late in the season.Clickity Clack (http://www.fanatykcowhistler.com/detail.cfm?nid=136&navid=4&catid=1)
But, most of all, have fun!

I forgot about the hostel if you are into that...it's one of the nicest ones around here (http://www.hihostels.ca/hostels/BC/BCRegion/Whistler/Hostels/)
It's on the other side of the lake (5-10min drive...20-30min spin on a big bike to the village)
