we could hang a stella off a pole and mount it to your helmet for motivation.

we could also drop a car at the bottom of executioner for those who bail out early. you could then drive said car over to Cypress and heckle us with a megaphone for motivational purposes.

reality is that im thinking this badboy is going to clock in at somewhere around the 8 hour mark. Stops for lunch, beers ext...ext. I have to decide it I should ride the heckler or clip in to the old rigid stumpjumper.

I think I will want to be on a hardtail as well, I just can not see riding a Big Hit that distance that time of year.

I can stash the Cooler full of ice and everyones favourite beverage the night before on Fromme when I walk the dog :)

i'm thinking more like 10-12+ ...

I concur.

Never know, might be around for the ride if the body is feeling good and I'm not banging nails or pouring concrete up in la-la land. And definitely no interest in riding with self-important hormone's who think this event is the qualifier for the Olympics and train for it obsessively while their kid's diaper is full of sh!t and needing to be changed.

Rat
05-11-2005, 11:01 AM
mabey im being optomistic on that

1.5 to the top of CBC
CBC Neds Bottle top 45 minutes
Climb to the yellow gate 45 minutes
Eat lunch 30 Minutes
Climb to the sixth switchback 45 minutes
Executioner 30 Minutes
ride over to millstream 1 hour
Miillstream and up to lot 5 1 hour
Drink beer eat food 30 minutes
Myster DH/ Stupid Grouse 45 minutes
21st back to Dizzy 45 Minutes

= 8.25 hours

mabey its wishfull thinking but I think we should bag it in under 10 hours at the very worst

oh and I used a mileage program I have and I estimate the ride at about 75 KM's

APT
05-11-2005, 02:07 PM
Gee, I think after the first lunch, I'm probably done for the day. Is this like a team event or something?

TheGiggler
05-11-2005, 02:29 PM
rat, that's a very good estimate. but to make those times you'd need to really keep the hammer down and not slack at all, especially on mtns 2 and 3.

it's doable, but realistically i expect it to be 10+, 'cause you don't want to blow your wad before the DH...

Knight-Rider
05-11-2005, 03:35 PM
^^I agree.....I'm thinking about 10-12 hours, as we probably wont be hamering on the downhill courses. At least not me. I don't want to break my XC bike before the race is over, or else it will be me shouting in the megaphone on cypress. Since we are about as far away from being pro XC racers, I think the main goal should be to have fun, and maybe a good story to tell around the campfire.

Rat.....you know where the campfire is going to be.

I'm relatively old and getting fatter by the day, so this is tempting. Can anyone estimate how much elevation gain all the climbing will add up to? I'd guess somewhere around 10,000ft.

slow fat guys doing the triplecrown is now stepping it up a notch with addition of a full support vehichle full of beer. I think a pony Keg might get a little foamy so we might have to stick with cans.(shotgun) There is also talk of hiring the waitress from raglans to drive the truck while wearing a skimpy outfit.

Zedbra
05-26-2005, 06:16 PM

So where do i sign up and how much do i pony up for carbs and support crew?. 8)

Rat
05-27-2005, 06:15 PM
I think its july 9th. Ill have to double check. well split the beer bill when we figure out how many old fat guys are acutally showing up. In reality the cans make for a more logical item but really the thought of a hottie serving up draft out of the back of a truck with a keg just seems like the right thing to do.

Im open for input on this. Brahms you make a good point about the shotguns, they have been proven to increase performance by 25%.

I think were going to strap a full size bbq down in the bed of the truck as well to really give a nice look to the whole thing. Mabey some flags and whirligigs as well.

the problem is duke, that although you may be old, you are anything but slow and fat. I think you should have to do it with a keg strapped to your back. That way if I need to carb up mid-trail, I wont have far to look. 8)

Some of you kids who dont want to go the whole way, sharon suggested you can team up and play a poker hand as well.

What do you guys think about mounting some speakers to the roof and Playing eye of the tiger on some of the more difficult climbs.

Actually do the fact that we have a complete support vehichle, i think ill just toss my Rigid stupjumper in the back in case anyone has a serious brakdown well have a spare ride. Also a few folks have said they have no plans on actually finishing so there should be some spare bikes floating around for ya splinky.

I really think we need to have a debate over this whole cans vs Keg situation. this is serious shit kids.

first question - Can we even get a pony keg of Stella?

Zedbra

VERY important decision Rat, I do agree with you. If it's possible, it shall happen. Drink Stella we will, yes.

Well I hate to admit it, but my wife has a copy of " eye of the tiger " on casset so if the support truck is old school enough we got that covered 8)

and if I'm going to be draggin' a trailer load o' liquid carbs it better have a hose long enough to reach my mouth attached to it.

personally I'm in favor of some can shotgunning myself though, a definite performance enhancer. :dead:

cans are mandatory for shotguns, however, some sort of beer bong helmet attachment could be workable for the keg. we be like fighter jets in mid flight refuel..definitely cool

You know I'll be respecting the keg/cans/bottles whatever. That will be the only thing keeping me going. But as Duke said, my goal is to finish. If I can pull this one off, it will be one of "those rides you never forget" having some good friends along will make it all the better, so you'd better not get gooned at the top of seymour :nono:

NO. The first old fast slim guy proposed Old Buck, the illegal climb parallel to the road to the Mushroom Parking Lot, pavement to CBC. CBC Neds Bottle Top Twin Bridge, middle bridge, Kings's Crawl, Roadside, Fromme Road, with short cut between 4 and 5th. 7th and Lower Oil Can or just short cut down Executioner, BP, SkyLine to urban backyard trails along MacKay Creek to Dam, portions of BP, Millstream, road to 3rd switchback, BLT then some illegal trail back to Millstream (or some super secret illegal trail to Horse Shoe Bay, and urban trails back to Dizzy. But to be a "real" Triple Crown you should have to go up to Grouse (not just part way up Fromme).

Go light, the dowhill trails are rideable on any bike.

for a frame of reference I was thinking of taking my circa 1996 rigid stumpjumper with 1.5 slicks.

I'm planning on going light myself. Either P.3 with 1.9 tires and 4" fork, or if i get energetic swap all the parts over to my 01 enduro frame and use that. either way it'll be 30 lbs +/- and 4" of travel. I'll happily sacrifice a little speed on the decents for a bike that will pedal well on the climbs.

Knight-Rider

That's because I have your xc bike now...I finally got it built up, get to ride it today for the first time. :agree:

Maybe I'll try this Triple Crown thing, if only to see the slow fat guy support vehicle! The mental image I have is kind of like when the ice cream truck cruises the neighbourhood.

Picture it: the vehicle chugs slowly up the mountain. Suddenly the nostalgic strains of "Eye of the Tiger" float out over the hills...from the trees, mountain bikers come running, tossing down their bikes, to cluster around the vehicle..."Do you have any Stella?", "Can I have a purple striped umbrella in my girly drink?" and "Hey, LG took the last one!"...;)

mabey im being optomistic on that

1.5 to the top of CBC
CBC Neds Bottle top 45 minutes
Climb to the yellow gate 45 minutes
Eat lunch 30 Minutes
Climb to the sixth switchback 45 minutes
Executioner 30 Minutes
ride over to millstream 1 hour
Miillstream and up to lot 5 1 hour
Drink beer eat food 30 minutes
Myster DH/ Stupid Grouse 45 minutes
21st back to Dizzy 45 Minutes

= 8.25 hours

mabey its wishfull thinking but I think we should bag it in under 10 hours at the very worst

oh and I used a mileage program I have and I estimate the ride at about 75 KM's

now its gots to be done in 8 hrs!!! 9-5 is the cut off..

from fast thin guys thread...

Looks like a cyclocross or modded road bike will be allowed. Starts at 9, finishes at 5.

Wicked fun...but wish I pushed it a little harder because I had tons of reserve left in the tank at the top of Cypress. I also did way too many trails on a bike that sucks on them (with my seat up and 50psi in my tires).

We rode a little over 61 kms. Not as long as I thought, but after 8 fricken hours, who cares?

Nice job on the SS Smoke - yer one strong SOB.

Awsome ride.....Awosme time. I'm glad its over, but I'd do it again next year in a heartbeat. Team shuttlewhore is an awsome group of guys to ride with, along with everyone else we ran into along the way. Fun was the name of the game. True spirit of mountain biking if you ask me. Props to James, Sharon, Tammy, and all the other oraganizers and volunteers for making it a great day. Props to team shuttlewhore's support crew, which I wouldn't have been able to make it that far without them. And props to everone else who rode yesterday, as it was a grueling ride.

What a day it was for sure!

I had never been on Seymour or Cypress riding, never did the Executioner on Fromme and have never did the shore on a hardtail with 3 inches of travel up front.

Thanks to all who set this event up

And Rat as well as everyone else who did the support for us Team Shuttle Whores that was the best day I have ever had in my life. You have now set the bar for all future Triple crowns.

We need to make sure this race is here to stay and that all us Whores make it to every single one from this point or else be the "weak ticket"

After I told my wife about the day she said she would like to be on the support crew for next year.
