Seeing as its the firstBC cup race, might as well start a thread for it.
How is the course as this is the first time I will be there, fast, technical, how's the dirt etc.? Fastest times from last year? Who's goin?

I'll be there, and every other BC Cup too.

I was there 3 years ago, for the first year the course was cut, so I'm probably not very much help to you. I don't think there's much pedalling and there's plenty opportunity to get in trouble if you let it go too much (but maybe I'm just a pussy).

last year it was very soft and sandy, steep fast and pretty fun

no garbonzo this year, (but i'm not highjacking this thread)

hemlock will look very different this year. the snow hasn't even fully melted away yet so the course will be wet, rocky and super fun.
should be a great race but i'm noe expecting a course record.

oh ya, accomodations are limited so if you plan on getting a place, book early.

Question on the lift and race sched, Friday, Sat, will lifts be going for practice? Just seeing how long I can stay there for and costs blah blah blah

grj
05-06-2005, 10:51 AM
don't worry about no garbonzo DH. like everything whistler, crankworx will be bigger, badder, and the most cutting edge event on the planet.

plenty of surprises in store.

not sure about lift access on friday for hemlock, but all day saturday for sure.

Cory believes quite strongly that DH races should be on the Sunday to allow lots of practice time. It looks like the lift will be open Friday, but I would suggest keeping an eye on the schedule to make sure you know if there are any changes to the chairlift times. Looks like Overtime is going to have a full service shop up there for the weekends too, so you won't be stuck if you break anything.

I will be there - I just moved back to BC so it will be my first BC race (I raced DH in Ontario and Quebec last year). I am excited - and a little aprehensive because I have no idea what to expect. Any tips and info would be much appreciated.

point it down the course and pin it. if your racing the master class winner buys beer. damn it's getting close and i'm getting freakin' anxious.

Who is going to buy the beer?

pano-dude

winner of the master 30-34x should buy beer for the rest of the class. it's only fair, there has to be some consequences for the dudes who train to win. after all we're supposed to be old and fat.

does anyone have any estimates on how many other masters women there will be ? (or just numbers on the women in general?) I checked the results from last year and in some races there were almost 30 - which is cool- I think the record for Ontario and Quebec last year was like 8

Probably not a lot, although the number of women racing has increased overall over the past few years. In masters women on average there's been roughly 5 or so for expert, with fewer for sport, sometimes only one or two. The bigger numbers tend to be in the senior category (19-29). Hemlock is a smallish race, last year there 4 expert, 2 sport in Master women. Overall there were 20 women entered. You should try Bear Mountain as well, that race is usually one of the bigger ones - I think there was almost 40 women entered (all categories). Plus you get to experience the cube van shuttle. :)

grj

i always suggest expert women all race in the senior category. the two main players from last seasons master ex category have both moved on to pro. so the cat may be very small this year.

Will it be open prior to Jun 4?

I am having trouble getting a hold of the mountain. What kind of accomodation is their? Camping? Hotels? Will their be any cheap rates for racers?

Thanks for the help.

There might not be anyone at the mountain during the week, even in winter they're only open on weekends. Try again on Saturday.

Also look on the Hemlock Mtn site http://www.hemlockvalleyresort.com, there's a link to something called snowflake resort which is right in the village; or try http://www.hemlockvalley.com/01lodge.htm, it looks like they do rental management as well. Don't know what they're like though. In previous years there has been some camping in one of the parking lots as well.

Works for me.

They have some Flash animation on the first page, so maybe that is messing you up. You can skip it by going directly to http://www.bearmountainchallenge.com/bearmtnchallenge.php

Well I just realized that Hemlock is almost here and this will be my first time going - not sure if I am going alone or if I will be bringing a friend and my small daughter - I would like to camp - does anyone have any suggestions? I will be driving down from Prince George on Thursday evening after work I think - I am estimating about 6 hrs - am I off base?

Also any info on the course would be great - so far I got steep, sandy and a nasty drop? Who else will be there? Looking forward to meeting new people and riding a new place and looking forward to starting another race season.

pano-dude

6 hrs may be a bit of a stretch, it is a 10hr tour from invermere(500miles). pg is north a long way but not as far east as invermere. I would guess you will be around the 8-10 hr marker. What class are you racing? I will be in 30-40 master x. I don't know much about the course, but i'll be camping in the p-lot in the back of my truck. (ford extended cab with canopy) stop by and have a soda.
