Has anyone used them? I know most of you are in Canada but I figure a lot of the NFL is Canadian so...
Having a broken collar bone has got me w/ two much time on my hands.
One of my crew played college FB (he plays BB for a missouri minor legue).
He was saying there are broken collar bones in FB but not too common and almost never compound (mostly hairline), and I think a 250-300lb LB hitting you at full running spead is way worse than f-ing up a 10' landing soooooo.
I'm thinknig reason FB is better protection is the shoulder cup is connected to the body collar and there is one more pad and plastic over that. All this transfers and spreads the load among the chest and shoulder instead of point loading the shoulder and placing all the stress on the collar bone.
Aside from being hot (although getting better), they are a lot lighter now than when I was a kid (real long time ago...don't ask)
Ideas or thoughts???
Mahalo.
yeah, I know long post but I type fast and am bored sh*tless:crazy:

if you wanna look like a jerk, then yeah, football pads will work.
=P
FYI, collarbones are designed to break to protect the shoulder joint from injury.
so you're just as likely to bust it falling with an outstretched arm, pads on or pads off.
there are far fewer collarbone injuries from blunt impact on the bone... they're pretty flexy for the most part.

Lacrosse shouldre pads would work better than football pads. Not as bulky.

junior used hockey pads to nail a rotten 12" stump with his shoulder at sunpeaks on hunydrop, snapped it clean off,got up laughing
if you cover yer pads with an oversize jersey nobody can tell what pads you are wearing,He just wore a 15$ hockey practice jersey over the hockey pads
If all you got or all you can afford is some hockey/lacrosse/football pads they are gona be better than NO pads

Bike armour is designed for bike crashes. Hockey and football gear is designed for those sports.
Buy some bike armour. If you are getting hurt this often, switch up your riding style, not your gear. :)

I would beg to differ. Many brands of bike armor have limited protection for your kidneys, ribs, and shoulders. Why wear a roost guard for biking? It wasn't specificallty designed as mountain bike armor, but it works well in many type of crashes.
Heck, this shirt offers more shoulder and rib protection than some MTB armor... http://www.sportsunlimitedinc.com/warvapfultee.html
I bet if you were asked to design the ultimate upper body armor for MTB, you could, as could I. For the price of MTB armor I'd expect it to offer complete coverage for our sport, but often it falls far from the mark.
Lacrosse is a sport that requires way more mobility than biking and it's upper body pads are designed to take tons of abuse. Let me take a stick to you and you'll understand ;)
If you're one of those that need other people's accepting opinions to make you 'feel' cool... no one will know what armor you are wearing urder a jersey  Buy the best protection for you and only you.

I disagree with the "people will think you're a dork and you'll look silly" air of this thread.
Wear whatever you want, and it will be better than nothing at all.
I wear a hockey jersey over my armour...who cares what jersey/padding/bike you're riding?

I use old small sized hockey gear. It works great, it was free and no one can tell its hockey gear unless I strip for them.... and when I do tell them its just hockey gear they everyone thinks that it is a great idea. If you got the money go with the nice bike stuff, if not, deal with what you got. :)

All American teams, no?
We do have the CFL though!
Try it out for a couple rides, and if it offers good protection, keep wearing it. I'm sure different models of armour will offer different mobility/protection.
Try it out and let us know how it works!

That's why I said "...I figure a lot of the NFL is Canadian so..."
NOT most of the NFL is Canadian.
And Keefer, who's your team? eh. I naturally have to go w/ Edmonton. The few games I saw them play they looked pretty good. My father in-law still hasn't explained why they can have a decent football team, but they can't get enough money to keep the good hockey players...but I digress;)
