View Full Version : BigHit Gear cable routing
Hi folks, I recently got a new BigHIt Pro frame (thanks Curtis at racetecnology.ca). She's all built up... (I'll post pics soon) however, the shop routed the gear cable along the side of the frame, across the linkage plates and down the seatstay. I'm wondering if I should take it back and have them route it under the bb and along the chainshay like it's supposed to. Or will it even make a difference?
Thanx
T.

I would recommend the shop's original set up.
The factory routing(guides provides under down tube etc.) requires a sharp bend in the cable to get to the rear derailure.
I prefer the routing you described that your LBS. provided.
Pics coming soon. (hopefully tonight) It does look a tad odd, the way they have it... but I noticed Norco Team DH has basically the same routing.

my brake line goes accross the linkage and down the stay, but my shifter cable goes under the BB like its suppost to. but when they go under just make sure that the lines not very tight AT ALL, i snapped 3 or 4 cable lines when it comressed and pulled the line.

The routing your bike shop set you up with will work. It will also decrease the 180 deg. bend at the rear derailluer.
Sorry Taz S. your rear brake hose routing is nasty.
Here's a shot of the routing. The brake lines go under the bb but the gear cable is across the linkage.

you miiiight want to through another zap strap on the cable cuz when your suspension compresses it might tend to tweek out and hit your crank, which could be really bad if it gets cought.
Grounded For Life: i know, but i dont wanna spend the extra $50 on a new line, so w.e.

Change it!
The routing the shop did will scoff your paint and linkage to shit as the suspension cycles.
The factory routing is best, you can run full housing and orient the the cable so it rises upwards towards the back of the chainstay (see TAZ_SIMPSON's bike) and make the rear loop a little less tight.

change it. my bighit goes under the bb, and so do all the ones at the shop near my house.

not if you do it properly. i had my cable that way for months with no scuffing, with two zapstraps it does not even need to touch the linkage.
and if you run a shitmano der, you will notice the difference between routing on the chainstay or seatstay no matter how you play with things...
