View Full Version : Help me out picking a fork.

So I ride an 03 bullit with an '02 7" boxxer on it and want to make an upgrade.

I've narrowed it down to the 04 Shiver or a 888rc (both in very good used condition). I also thought about the 05 boxxer team but just can't find a decent price on one.

My reservation with the shiver is its beefiness so I'm concerned it will be less manoeverable on the trail. Otherwise I think I'm leaning towards it.

The 888 seems like a great overall fork, but it's really tall.

I want something that will be good for riding the shore; I'm not a super-fast rider but like the stunts and drops. 75% of my riding is of the uphill power-assist type. Go to whistler maybe 6 times a year.

Any feedback? I plan to buy one in the next week or so.

The shiver has a better turning radius than most forks, and I think you'll find the geometry with the tall 888 might be a little too slack (cutting down it's maneuverability).

Between the two, I'd go with the Shiver.

its surprising how quickly you'll get used to added weight on the trail... on the climbs is a diferent matter. The 888 def is a superb fork, but so is the shiver.

Good advice from someone selling a 888.

Want to PM me with the price?

I don't want to come off trash talking the 888, but I LOVE the shivers and can offer advice on it based on experience (haven't tried the 888 yet).

PM sent

Look at the '05 Boxxer: Lower, lighter, same travel, easier to service, cheaper if buying new - $1300.

look for a boxxer, you don't want to go too high with a Bullit, It'll f#ck up the handling. Well its just my opinion, but I like the front end as low as possible.

the 888's are lower for 05. I ride a Shiver and its great for high speed stuff, very supple, but if I were you I'd try the 888 since it probably handles better in slow-speed terrain (stiffer). Or the boxxer. I don't think there is that much weight difference between them all, maybe a pound or two

Cheapest I saw was $1349 plus taxes. That makes it over $1500!

That's a good price (converts to $1000 CDN) but when ordering from the US aren't I going to get nailed for duty, PST & GST plus some broker fee that will wipe out all those savings?

I don't know what 888's are lower this year than 2004, but putting a 2005 888rc beside a 2004 888r indicated to my bad eyesight that they were exactly the same. I bought flat crowns from Risse...

fedex ground. 25 US brokerage and 7% gst on whatever you bought. It's not that bad.

USPS will charge you 5$ plus 7%

if you can ship fedex air, there is no brokerage and you only pay 7%.

my bad, i though marzocchi switched to flatter crowns for 05. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen any changes to the height
