Unloaded some more today. I think this'll be enough collecting for now unless they're easy 4'+ 2x4's etc...
***I accept donations for gas and nails*** :D
I just stacked about 75 of these. 3x4's, 4-6' long, plus each one has 2-3 8" spiral spikes.

I still have 3 full stacks of these 2' long 2x5's....about 750ish of 'em.

The general pile. Plus I have about 200 12-18" long 2x5's in another corner of the yard. No idea what I'm gonna do with the wood spindles in a trail???

You mean that shakey longish wood deal in the ravine?
I hiked in 20-25min each way today to make a 2min cut on a log that fell across the trail a couple weeks ago.
Daaaaaamn.
that is a pile of wood. You shouldve dragged it out there on a sledge behind a sled this winter if ya couldve. that is a PILE

NOW you tell me. Shit! I didn't even think of that! I actually need to get a lot of this into a trail...a snowmobile would have made it easy as hell.

OK,i'll be the prick......
Whats with the stringers nailed into the live trees?
pretty work tho.....:)

Nailing and cutting of live trees will not happen again.
It got done because...
1: In the entire Kamloops area, prior to this structure, you could count the total # of spikes in trees from mtb'ers on both hands, if that.
2: Kelowna has been getting away with it for yrs.
3: It's "just" Pine etc....not like it's old growth Cedars or something.
So, I figured what the hay, we can do at least one:rolleyes: BUT...I do feel kinda bad about it, not for the sake of the trees, but incase it should bring mtb'ers negative attention from Forestry.
Oh well, live and learn. So there's one. I won't do another. Strictly lumber from now on...which holds up quite well here cuz it's dry.

Loopie, have you thought of returning those reels for $$$. They look to be over 36" which means they are worth about 300 each. Are they in good shape? i.e. not missing any wood. If they are in good shape I would call a local wire wholesaler to see if they would take them back. Are they spray painted at all?

Now I see why my backpack wasn't going to help much. You need a big logging truck to carry all that wood! :)
Loopie
04-13-2005, 03:58 AM
Well Boys....about two full truck loads are going out of here in the next couple days.
Gonna use most/all of the 3x4's as tops on 8-10' long trannies. All my 2x5" at ~15" wide will make up three 8' long launches...so at least 3 wood-to-wood gappers are going up.
I may get started on an idea I have for one of the spools, and/or also work on some elevated bridge work that will end with a fall away teeter into a stepup launch onto level bridge top that down ramps into a jump ramp to tranny....or something to that effect.

Hey Murray:)
Heading up tomorrow about noon till as late as needed.
I definitely have enough wood for now. Uhmm...I should be good for nails too, I think. I'll assess my nail inventory tonight when I'm done pre-building at home here(doing that today)

I figure we have 3 loads to go up...so I just got back from dropping off the first load. We're taking 2 trucks up tomorrow.
Good thing I went today! It took me 2hrs to find the proper access road to the location:lol:

My Bro had to bail today (but we're going up tomorrow together).
So I went up by myself today....unloaded another load, buffed up an existing dirt tranny, built and finished a 13 1/2' wood-to-wood gapper:cool:

We build in Vernon with lumber as well. We carry it in by the armload.
It is pretty much cut to length of what we need when we bring it in.
As far as ease of getting it in, we try and build our extensive wooden stunts
fairly close to a road with access of some sort. Also what I have done many times, especially when you are building alone on an established trail is ask groups of passerby riders to take 15 min, park their bikes and all carry one load with me, then build for a while until the next group. It will save you an afternoon of packing boards. I guess this will only work on an established trail with traffic. I have never had anyone say no to me yet.
Wheel barrows also work to carry boards, as long as they are short and the terrain is not to gnarly cause the wheel barroes have no ground clearance. :werd:
Nice lumber pile by the way.
