What is the best way to make a zip line?

I've heard about kits and stuff from people but does anyone know a website?

Has anyone made one before? If so do you have a preferred method?

Thanks

you gotta have good gear. Dont cheap out on cable,. Go to your local mountaneering store...and they should be able to help you out.

check mec, they'll have mountain climbing pulleys... or better yet, go to home hardware, they'll have some low grade pulleys available for cheap.

edit: I guess you're in the states, so try REI for climbing stuff, or a home depot or something for the cheapy stuff.

Well, if you aren't putting a human on it I would suggest just using some rope. But if you want to send someone down it pick up some webbing from a climbing store. A few slings and a carabiner tightening system you have yourself a zipline(we actually made one this way on Friday at school). As for pullies, I'd work on a counter weight system. Not sure how exactly it would work, but you can easily find pulleys at hardware store.

Petzl makes some of the nicest stuff around when it comes to hanging yourself from a rope... (that sounds odd...) anywho, LINK! (http://www.petzl.com/petzl/SportProduits?MotRecherche=Quick+Search&Langue=en&Activite=0&Famille=11&SousFamille=34&News=) it might be pricey, but it also might keep ya safe, which is always a good thing.

Do searches for flying fox equipment or "zip line".

zip lines need steel wound cable. not rope. what you need a zip line for anyway? and that cable is not cheap, and you have to anchor it, not just tie it to a tree.

Pretty easy - go to REI's website and buy yourself some 11mm static line and a pulley, a two large locking carbiners, two single runners (webbing) and a harness.

Next go to a hardware store and buy a come-along.

Tie one end of the static line to a tree. Anchor the come-along to something that won't move. Attach the free end of the static line to the come-along hook and crank it tight. Bingo - zip line.

mec stands for mountain equipment co-op. or www.mec.ca , great source for all yoru outdoor needs, I have bought a few pairs of sealed bearing pedals from there, and Also sent some back under crash replacement and got new ones.

My bro was planning on tryin that soon for a shot up at 27, we need to find steel cable though or mabey a rope if that would still work right.

An 11mm static line woold be all you need, not a steal cable. Dont try a dynamic rope you will never pull the stretch out of it.Find a climber and befriend him and borrow his gri gri or soloist for breaking. they are easy to set up but costly if you dont have the gear.

nicks- i think it would be rad to start the line at the berm after the ladder to ladder after the cedar gap and run it along side or on top all the ladder to ladder gaps and have it end after the djs.-- a long line but think of how awesome of a shot that would be!

this is actually for filming at my dirtjumps though.

how much is all this stuff? harnesses, come alongs, cable, etc?
