So much had happened to me in this last week, I cant even keep up with it. I just need to get my story off my chest. Excuse all my typos, i cant think straight with all the durgs ive got right now.
Last Sunday was the first Island Cup DH race in Port Aberni. I was pretty excited at the first race of the season, the first season i was going to give some real commitment into racing, maybe move into expert this year. I loved the new course, although it was a bit mudddy, it was sill awesome. I had raced there a few weeks back and did alright, but it gave me a bit of an adventage over some people becuase i knew the course a bit better. When my run came i was just hauling ........ until i got about halfway down. I slid out at a corner and went front wheel first right into a stump. Once i tried to get going again, i noticed my back wheel was locked, and upon further inspection, i had a nice big crack running along the chainstay of my VPS. What a way to start the bike season, with a busted bike. That night while mulling over the day, i check the race reults. If i had my time on the course from a few weeks back, this days race, i would have finished a tasty 6/52 in intermediate men. So now im waiting to see how cheaply i cant get replacement stays, and how soon, cause i dont want to miss out on the next race. But as i found out 2 days later, all that wont matter.
The day is the following Tuesday, and our first rugby game of the season. Im really exicted as i line up at outside center for our match against Brentwood College. About 10 minutes into the game, i go knee on knee with one of their backs, going at pretty much full speed, adn we both went down hard. I tried to get up after the collision, but my left leg just wouldnt work, i figured i gave it a good charlie horse. Since i couldnt even stand up on my own 2 feet, i hobble off to the sidelines to try and walk it off. I grabed an ice pack, tied it on and tried to walk. No dice. Still no luck after about 10 minutes i tell my coach im out for the game. It didnt hurt all that much during the rest of the game, but that night when i got home the pain just got friggin excrushiating. Now as i couldnt even move my leg on my own, i figured something was wrong and i went to the hospital. Im hopped up on T3's as the doctor comes back with my x-rays and tells me that i broke me left patella (kneecap) into 3 pieces. I took at look at the x-rays and there were sure 3 distinguishable pieces there. Then the bad news comes, the doctor told me that i will have to take it easy for 6-8 weeks, and say goodbye to my rugby season. Wedesday evening at about 7ish i went in for surgery to wire my kneecap back together. It went pretty smoothly, as did the next few days in the hospital recovering. I got out this (Friday) afternoon and ive been sititng on my ass eating ice cream.
Just a word to all you guys who arent reading this without a cast on. You dont know how lucky you are to be able to stand up and go ride your bike. I will have to forefit the next few Island Cup races, my rugby season and work for the next 2 months or so. I definatly took the ability to ride for granted, and once i hop back on my bike this summer, it will be a whole new sport for me.
Now, im off to do more of nothing.
