So much had happened to me in this last week, I cant even keep up with it. I just need to get my story off my chest. Excuse all my typos, i cant think straight with all the durgs ive got right now.

Last Sunday was the first Island Cup DH race in Port Aberni. I was pretty excited at the first race of the season, the first season i was going to give some real commitment into racing, maybe move into expert this year. I loved the new course, although it was a bit mudddy, it was sill awesome. I had raced there a few weeks back and did alright, but it gave me a bit of an adventage over some people becuase i knew the course a bit better. When my run came i was just hauling ........ until i got about halfway down. I slid out at a corner and went front wheel first right into a stump. Once i tried to get going again, i noticed my back wheel was locked, and upon further inspection, i had a nice big crack running along the chainstay of my VPS. What a way to start the bike season, with a busted bike. That night while mulling over the day, i check the race reults. If i had my time on the course from a few weeks back, this days race, i would have finished a tasty 6/52 in intermediate men. So now im waiting to see how cheaply i cant get replacement stays, and how soon, cause i dont want to miss out on the next race. But as i found out 2 days later, all that wont matter.

The day is the following Tuesday, and our first rugby game of the season. Im really exicted as i line up at outside center for our match against Brentwood College. About 10 minutes into the game, i go knee on knee with one of their backs, going at pretty much full speed, adn we both went down hard. I tried to get up after the collision, but my left leg just wouldnt work, i figured i gave it a good charlie horse. Since i couldnt even stand up on my own 2 feet, i hobble off to the sidelines to try and walk it off. I grabed an ice pack, tied it on and tried to walk. No dice. Still no luck after about 10 minutes i tell my coach im out for the game. It didnt hurt all that much during the rest of the game, but that night when i got home the pain just got friggin excrushiating. Now as i couldnt even move my leg on my own, i figured something was wrong and i went to the hospital. Im hopped up on T3's as the doctor comes back with my x-rays and tells me that i broke me left patella (kneecap) into 3 pieces. I took at look at the x-rays and there were sure 3 distinguishable pieces there. Then the bad news comes, the doctor told me that i will have to take it easy for 6-8 weeks, and say goodbye to my rugby season. Wedesday evening at about 7ish i went in for surgery to wire my kneecap back together. It went pretty smoothly, as did the next few days in the hospital recovering. I got out this (Friday) afternoon and ive been sititng on my ass eating ice cream.

Just a word to all you guys who arent reading this without a cast on. You dont know how lucky you are to be able to stand up and go ride your bike. I will have to forefit the next few Island Cup races, my rugby season and work for the next 2 months or so. I definatly took the ability to ride for granted, and once i hop back on my bike this summer, it will be a whole new sport for me.

Now, im off to do more of nothing.

I just started walking on my own two weeks ago after being pretty much immobile (crutches) for the past three months.

I'm hoping to ride around the Stanley Park sea wall this weekend if I'm able to! Sure puts everything in perspective. I'll need to go back for a second surgery (first one plated my split tibia) to repair my ruptured ACL. Yuck.

All I can say is get the swelling down ASAP and do your physio religiously. Knee injuries suck - your quad is going to atrophy super fast, so you need to get on top of strengthening it as fast as the doctor will let you.

Good luck!

Having broke a few bones in my body ( well more than a few) not being able to walk is the worst. Healing vibes to you bud, listen to your Dr. and your Phsyiotherapy, cause it just plain works.:friend:

that sucks majorly. you should be able to get warranty on the chainstay. I did. shitty about the knee. its cool that you play too. we just stared our first game last tuesday too. I agree sooo much with him. when your injured you go nuts. you cant do anything active. you feel like a fat mess. I broke my pelvis in september and was in a wheelchair. I had to have someone help me in and out of it and help me do everything. I know exactly how you feel. healing vibes to you jarrad. come down to victoria when you heal up, theres riding spots popping up everywhere.

I was out at the end of september because I broke my pelvis doing dj's. I was able to ride on the road the next day but I couldn't walk or go over any bumps. I was out for 8 weeks and my mom wouldn't let me ride for like a month after that in case I re injured myself. I ended up missing the first month and a half of backetball season and it suked ass. But make sure you go to phisio, it really helped me

you'll be back sooner than you think. Work daily on upper body strength, gut, and any leg work you can in the next 8 weeks and you'll be back stronger than ever. They might even move you into the pack where real men play next year.

Sorry to hear that bro. I been down this road before as have many others. As Knolly mentioned, it can really change one's perspective. Keep positive and focus on following the doc's plan for your return.

Follow a good rehab schedule and if the doc approves, buy yourself a trainer. I own a Minoura and it helped me return from my injury much faster than I expected and much stronger.

You be back before you know it and most likely in time to rip the summer :thepimp:

Buddy i feel for ya. I blew my MCL in a football game, and just last year ruptured a tendon in my ankle, still feeling that one.

Just take your rehab seriously and you will be back at 'er in no time. Maybe see if the Doc could hook you up with a ti knee cap! :thepimp:
