View Full Version : Bike Theft Ring in Lower Mainland

Just got off the phone with a friend that lives in Maple Ridge. Apparently in her co-op there are a bunch of guys who are operating a bike ring and are stealing high-end DH bikes from Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and the Tri-Cities (PoCo, Coquitlam and Port Moody) between 3-4 am. They are filing off the serial numbers and re-selling them for $500 or so. She said she knows for sure that right now they have a high-end Norco with a Monster T. She's also seen a Stinky DeeLux with a 888.
This has been going on for a number of months; the Maple Ridge police know, but are doing nothing. One of the guy's names is Chris Houle and he is a convicted felon currently on parole - about 5'9" 190lbs with dark hair. There are 2 other guys as well, one is around 6'1" 180lbs with a shaved head and goatee.
I have the address also, not sure if I should post it up..lol.
She just wanted me to make people be more aware that this is an organized ring, and LOCK UP YOUR BIKES!!! They are taking them from sheds, garages and probably breaking into houses.
She's confronted them..but she's pretty gutsy.

Post up the address.
I'm really starting to believe the police do nothing. My next door neighbour found a garbage bag full of weed behind their place of work and called the cops. They weren't even interested and never came to investigate.

Nobody should ever leave their bike out of sight. Ever.
You have to expect that stolen goods will not be returned to you. You have to move on and learn.

This just isnt a bike being left outside while somone grabs a coffee. This is essentially organized crime with a targeted intended purpose. And the police are aware and arent doing thing for Theft over $5,000.

so where do we get one of these sweet $500 deals? ;)
I would love to see their address posted - you know at least a few people would fuck their place up. Of course, then they'd move.
I'm actually glad to hear that they do it at night. The only time I really can't keep an eye on my bikes is when I'm at work.

In which case, I have some in a brown biodegradable paper bag. The District takes them away for free when I leave them on my curb. D.

The neighbours a women, i doubt the kind who would keep the weed. I joked with her, asking how much of it she had smoked so far. She left it where it was. She was afraid if she had taken it and then been pulled over by the cops she would be subject to a cavity search.
and ya she's probably not an expert on weed so it may have been clippings, not buds.

When I worked for the TOwnship of Langley I found a garbage bag full of weed in the long grass at one of the sk8 parks. I through it the back of my truck and drove around ofr the rest of the day. On my way back to the office at the end of the day I dropped it off at the RCMP office which after the took a look in the bag decided they would keep it.
Not a grug dealer - never will be.

If the guys on parole, call the parole board.
Get a camera and film them with the bikes or better yet them filing off the serial numbers. If the RCMP don't want to do anything then give the tape to a local newspaper.
Don't confront them, if you do and get into a situation the police might not be able to do anything without charging you.

If you want to get crime stopers or the police actualy to do sumthing.. say they were spotted carrying large garbage bags in and out of the house and they have been spotted with weaponds.. and they will be there VERY fast.. other wise it can take up to 6 months for them to do anything..
i know this because the house i was just living in used to be a grow show.. and the neighbour told us that inorder to get crime stopers to do any thing he had to say.. "i saw them carying mig garbage bags in and out and i have seen them with Guns"

Call 604-420-2288 Global TV - tell them the cops have been notified and don't give a shit, there's a known felon on parole running the operation, give them the felon's name and address (they have the resources to get all this guy's past criminal history), and let them do the rest.
Police tend to react once they end up looking like tools on national tv.
Maybe have your friend call the mayor's office afterwards and tell them flat out - look you assholes don't care so I've notified the press, maybe you should roll off your secretary and get the cops to do their job.

Please post up the address... Then, perhaps as a group of mountainbikers we could go to the Police and say somthing along the lines of, we know that this is happening, its organized crime in our community's if you aren't willing to do anything to stop it maybe it will be taken as a message that there needs to be vigilante justice for operations like this...
Just an idea... Maybe somthin' to think about

I guess another option is to PM the Port Moody Police that post up here. Not their juristiction, but perhaps they can suggest some good methods of getting the RCMP's attention in this case.

I don't believe we have "felons" in Canada under Canadian Law. In the US, a "felony" is defined Federally as a any crime punishable by death or more than one year's imprisonment. But I think we get the idea. D.

Its useful to get the terms right. When people use confusing/inexact/incorrect terms, it can make other people wonder if the source has other facts of the story straight. (I am not doubting LG's story ... but if you are naming someone as a convicted felon you should know that there is no such thing as a felony conviction in Canada) D.

I've seen do it yourself acid-etching kits intended to etch the VIN number of a car into all the windows, theoretically making it much harder to steal and sell for parts... Could the same be done for bikes? Etch your name and the bike's serial into all important/valuable parts such as the frame (in a place other than the bottom bracket), onto a fork leg, outer body of the rear derailleur, crankarms, etc.

Maybe I missed something, but how is one supposed to catch something like this on tape without somehow confrontiong the individual, or without being confronted? You expect people to hide in the bushes?
In discussing the problem of neighborhood grow-ops out here with a local cop, he mentioned that the easiest way to get guys like this nailed is by "accident". Police CAN go into any house without a search warrant if they are called to the house for a B&E. So, although he doesn't recommend this because of the obvious risks, what he's seen done successfully are local residence "breaking into" a known grow-op house in the middle of the day when nobody is home. These people make sure they're not seen, break in, leave the premises, then call the police to report the B&E. Police show up, and discover the other suspicious activity, then have grounds to take further action.
Again, he doesn't recommend this (because if you're caught by anyone, bad news), but was merely stating what one neighborhood in particular did to initiate cleaning up the area.
Let"s smoke the weed & go kick some ass
