from Canadiancyclist.com:

Representatives from the North Shore are traveling to Reno, Nevada this week to discuss the sport of mountain biking and, in particular, trail building.

North Shore Credit Union World Mountain Bike Festival and Conference coordinator, Richard Juryn, along with staff from The City of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver and Greater Vancouver Regional District, are invited guests at the 2005 Trailbuilders Conference, March 6-11 in Reno.

On March 10th (1:00-2:30pm), Richard will host a discussion on "Mitigating the Risk of Technical MTB Trails through Design and Communication".

With the North Shore phenomenon being exported to the USA through magazines and video, technical mountain bike trails are beginning to sprout up south of the border. Can they have technical mountain bike trails that effectively manage and mitigate risk? Richard will explore real-world examples of how North Shore trail builders have handled this important topic.

The District of North Van declined sending a representative (even though the conference was going to pay) because this is too much of a hot button issue right now.

Too bad.

Now why would they travel all the way to Reno to look at pictures of trails in our own backyard? Thanks to all the work by many individuals, trails like UOC and Seventh, crinkum, griffin circuit ARE considered the bench mark for trail construction.

just outta curiousity, what are Richard Juryns qualifications? Does he have some kind of background in environmental whatever or is he just someone that decided to get involved?
