i'm 5'4...wondering if having a large frame is gonna bring down my riding n make it harder for me? And what size frame should I be looking for...
Yes.
If you’re a small rider, like me, look for the smallest bike you can find. Right now I have a 16.5" seat tube and a 22" top tube. It works but if the seat tube was around 14 and the top tube was around 21" it would be perfect. I also use a 24" rear wheel.
I’m just under 5’5”

Uh get small frame. I'm 5'10" and I like small fitting frames. Also, before buying anything new, maybe narrow down the area of riding you want to focus on.

1300$ for a fully rigid banshee scratch... 24" wheels... such a nice little bike.
I've been on the large bike cuz its a good price train, did not enjoy it. Thing is I was 5'11" at the time. You'd hate it.

I think my best bet would be to go try out some bikes n see what feels right...

it really depends on your riding style. i have a buddy who's 5'9" and rides larger frames - medium norco vps, medium hucker etc. his bikes are always too big for me (i'm 5'6" and like smaller frames) so it's really down to preference. i also tend to "tripod" a little too much, which is why i like a smaller frame.

nothing will improve your riding like a bike that fits. As stated above fit has a lot to do with it.
I'm 5'9" but ride a long frame (13" seat tube) with a short (60mm) stem because it works best for me. My buddy is 5'11", rides the same frame in a regular (inch shorter top tube) with a 90mm stem and that works for him.
When it comes to norco's, until the Six came out I'd never ridden one I liked. The standover on the monocoque frames (even the small) was brutal. Companies are doing a way better job now of building a suspension bike that will fit with good standover.
Props to Norco for the six (in a ton of sizes all with way better standover then the VPS') and props to Giant for the new Trance and Reign line which have the best standover-to-travel ratio for the vertically challenged among us (if you have a riding friend under 5'3" defiently check out the trance and reign).
The rant done. Like I said, nothing will improve your riding like a bike that fits YOU. Whatever that means.
