View Full Version : 888 c-clip... revisited?

So before I do anything drastic, can someone confirm with me that it might be a problem with the preload c-clip if the fork sounds like someone shaking a bag of washers as the fork rebounds out of its sag?

eg. when I lift the front of my bike lightly off the ground (or not even off, just enough to eliminate the sag) it makes a lame, shaking a handful of metal bits sound.

i'd love to be able to bring to my lbs for a pro-opinion, but our mechanic is completely out to lunch when it comes to anything involving suspension...when I asked him about the sound he blamed it on my monocoque frame (03 a-line) "thats just how norcos are, its the new monocoque frame, it reverberates, dont worry about any noises it makes". sorry, with all respect, but i think a mysterious crunching sound in my fork that happens all of a sudden deserves a bit more of an "oh shit" than that.

thanks,
matt

Thats absolutley the sound of a 888 with a loose clip. First 1-2 cm of negative travel right? Open it up, bend it out wards a little, flip it over and pop it back in. I only had to do this once last season.

It is definitely the sound of the c-clip needing adjustment or change of position. I have not personally done this, rather I had the Marz tech at Whistler do it for me last year, so I defer to others on exactly how to do it yourself.
It is not your frame.

the word on the street is the springs are settling within the fork legs. the 'c-clip' has 3 positions on the damper rod where it can be placed. from what i understand marz. locates this on the top notch, the spring compresses slightly over time and therfore some play occurs between the spring and the c-clip thats there to add the slightest pre-load. i figure moving this c-clip down 1 or 2 notches equally on each side of the fork dampers to add little spring pre-load should solve this.

i'll look up the thread that explains this!
