View Full Version : Ripper 4, what is the real rider's route?

For the Ripper 4 aka Triple Crown we have the choice of route between each check point .
You could do the paved roads all the way on Seymour and Cyress, and Mtn Highway on Fromme, but that would be just a road race and not worthy of a Triple Crown title (just like shuttling the climbs would not be worthy).
For Seymour the REAL Mountain Bikers should go up New Buck (too bad the trail on the right side of the highway between the 2nd and 3rd switchback is poaching). Will likely have to use the road from 3rd switchback to CBC (don't want to be hiking up CBC). Then down CBC to Neds, Bottle Top, Twin Bridge climb to Propaganda Forest (the alternative trail climb is also a poach). Cross the middle bridge (too many walkers on the suspension bridge for the middle of the day). Pavement to the Imaginary Frog Pond, up BP or King's Crawl to the Water Towers.
Take the oppurtunity for the lunch break and socialize, say half an hour.
Up road with exception of Roadside Attraction and Warden Short Cut to 6th.
7th or Executioner?
Skyline or BP to Dam?
Climb Cyress via Brother's Creek or BLT?
Maybe another mandatory lunch break in the Parking Lot to socialize and debate what trail down?
What route back to Dizzy?

my legs hurt and all I did was READ that!
I'm gonna have to be putting more than todays 45k into a ride before this mayhem.
I like the idea of doing it all on the trail, but woah, BP to the dam? ouch. that hurts me inside.
i've got a "secret" route from 6th down to BP
you'l need a time machine to know about it

ha ha Trevor, you'll be dragging your ass across the finish line the next morning! That's a pretty ballsy route, I don't know if there's enough time to ride the whole way on trails! I guess if it's based on your Poker hand there's no real time limit.......

I think I should get a deck of cards and hand them out here in Whistler for anyone who can squeeze in a trip up the highway for a few park laps.
personaly if Im shooting for.
Ride the road up to CBC - TNT - Neds -Bottletop
across the bridge up to gravel road to the demo forest across that pipline bridge then up frome to upper/lower Bitches over to brothers creek. how much poop I have left will determine the final route. if I had the balls Id finish with skier - 5th and ride back along marine stopping at a few pubs along the way.
Jet boy might make for a fun line off fromme, anyone been down that trail recently
i just came up with a great idea.
a north shore poker run/pub crawl
I just did a little check on a mileage thingy I have at work and that route I described is about 65 KM's give or take 5 or 10 KM's
I actually thought it would be a bit longer.
Hmm what pubs to hit on the way back. so is everyone doing this a bunch of lean rippers or are there any other old fat and Slow guys wanna get a little group together

Ok, so I am very seriously considering doing this Triple Crown. I can take a fair bit of punishment, but I'm young and know nothing about how to get around.
If someone who know's what they're doing would care to volunteer to take me under their wing, that'd be awesome. A cool route would be an even bigger bonus.
Would I get huge bonus points for doing it singlespeed? I think I'll pick up a real XC for this rip actually.

Trevor, how do you plan on getting to Lot 5 on Cypress by riding Big Eye??? Or is that just the scenic route lol And if I'm not mistaken, lot 5 is the very top lot for the ski area, not on the third switchback.
Lee, I need you as my wingman for when I start hallucinating!!!This should make comfortably numb look like the seawall.
Lot 5 is the pre reap lot I beleive.
and I think trev was going to do the big Eye on the way back down

i really have no idea of the real route... where is the list of points we have to hit for the poker cards? i didn't think that was released yet, so it's tough to say for sure the line...
there's a few sweet options on cyps and fromme... rat already mentioned one for fromme...

Ripper4 - The Triple Crown Poker Rip
To honour that which is shore we are bringing on the infamous, heralded, crowning glory of the North Shore. Let me introduce you to the "Triple
Crown". Yes! Three Mountains in one day.
Beginning at Old Buck parking lot this "Group Ride" will start at 9:00am . The Riders will be issued a Poker Card. Then at CBC the same rider will be issued another Playing card. Over to the Water Towers on Fromme the riders
will receive the third card and an opportunity to take a time out. Up to the sixth Switch back for card four . Over to the Cleveland dam for card five up to Lot 5 for the Sixth card and the final card will be issued at the finish line which will be The door way to Dizzy Cycles in North Vancouver .The
event has two main components- you guessed it a roaring crowd and massive bragging rights ! "The winner" will be the rider who gets the best poker hand- not the first person in . There will be much debate over the best route and we are sure this debate will fill NSMB's forum over the next few months.
This time the party will be held at Dizzy Cycles in North Vancouver.
doh, it's all set.
yeah, brothers creek trails don't fit in this, as mentioned, the only legal was to access is up brothers creek fire road. but i have something else in mind for cypress ;)
good news is almost anything on fromme or seymour is doable... and would fit in more or less...
the one part i'm not sure of is the fatest way from Fromme to Cypress... obivously over cap dam, but beyond that i dunno... take roads to the cypress mtn road? any trails to ride this (e.g. skyline) would be a serious hike a bike. my preferred cyp climb is on the west side and not so convinient for this...
i believe millstream is flat easy and goes from top of eyremount over to the look out

Ask Derek Dix/Midas, He would know the fastest route.

Back up 15th to the BProp's, to Glenmore, over the dam and one of either:
-Montroyal to Highlands Blvd, cut into Mosquito Creek and down to Marine.
-up Montroyal all the way to bridge at Mosquito Creek and descend to Marine. You could even throw the old culvert into the mix for a chuckle.

that's more like it
more trail less road
and you can even ride through the creek rather than take the pedestrain bridge over Mosquito Creek
