I am going to the shore over spring break to do some biking (obviosly) and right now I have Maxxis Holy Rollers which arn't designed for the shore, just for urban and dirtjump. I might try going with them anyway because I am low on cash having just bought a new bike. So if there are any cheap but reliable tires it would be good to know about soon. Thanks

I think you can get 243. tires for cheap. Also you can get those Vee-rubber tires for like $25. I think they are called the Ninja and the stout.

I like the .243s pretty good tire for the price ($60). The nevegals are also pretty good. But once you ride really nice tired be warned, youll never go back. I use mobster stickies or a comp32 on tront depeneding on conditions.

I hated the .243..I had nothing but bad luck. Then i went to a mobster on the rear and a blue groove on the front.......what a huge difference. I now have a nevegal on order.

On Top has a bunch of Arrows on sale.
But like others have said tires are one thing you don't want to cheap out on, once you ride good sticky tires you don't go back. Michelins are worth every penny IMO.

Michilens also only used to be about $100. Last time i check a comp32 is $130. Thats getting unreasonable. You can almost buy a full set of kendas for that much money.

Yup. just picked up 2 Nevegals, total cost after taxes, $128.00. 2.7 up front and 2.5 in the rear.

They're usually $90.
Good rule to go by - don't skimp on tires.

.243 tire is pretty decent actually.
but IMO, the Nevegal is a better performer in almost all conditions. and seeing as they're about the same price.
sure you don't want to skimp on tires... get Nevegals. they can go up against anything out there.
stouts.
$20, and they have decent sidewalls and always remember to drop the pressure when you get to the trailhead.
if you've got the cash though, definitely purchase something better.

it's always nevagal nevagal nevagal
does anyone use the blue groove up front?
just curious....i know that the nevagals rock, just wearing down my current tires a bit more, but i was thinking a bluegroove, / nevagal combo

I use Blue Groove as front tires on two bikes. A 2.7" on my DH bike, and a 2.3" on my AM bike. The tire wears amazingly well. It's also an outstanding front tire. In the 2.7" size, it rivals the Michelin Comp32.
The 2.3" version (including the Nevegal) is the best tire in that size, bar none, IMO. Grips like a Michelin, does not flat easy (I've not had a flat in one year of riding), and weighs less. Awesome AM tire for terrain that gets slippery.

I used a Nevegal up front (2.7) for last year, worked great, like Switch says, rivals the Michelin 2.8. It's done now and I've replaced it with a 2.5 Nevegal. I've heard lots of praise for the Nevegal as a front tire, especially in the damp, rooty terrain we have around here. Just put it on last night, so it'll take a couple of weeks to form an opinion.

I tried the 2.5 Nevegal and Blue Groove as a front tire. The Kevlar bead version isn't tough enough for riding at lower pressures. The wire bead version works great. :)
For AM, the 2.3 Nevegal and Blue Groove, in the Kevlar bead, is awesome. Only 780 grams, and lots of grip. Rolling resistance on hard surface is a little high (typical of a tacky compound tire), but I don't ride the road or hard surfaces much.

I use a blue groove on the front. 2.5. It's sticky, predictable, bites good in all conditions.

WTB MotoRaptors 2.4 are $35 a tire, a decent set of tires for $70.
They are no Michelins, but you were asking for inexpensive.
