I am looking to upgrade my Flow 24 with a new fork. I'll be using it for FR and some DJ . I weigh 140lbs and am a fairly smooth rider. I've been looking at both these forks. I've had Marzocchi's before and have loved the feel of the HSCV cartridge but am interested in the weight, and adjustability of the PIKE. I've never ridden one but have heard great things. Any suggestions would be great.
Oh. I'd be looking at the 2004 Z1 with 5 inches and thru axle vs. the PIKE Race with the steel steer tube and top mounted motion control adjust. They'll both be around the same price, with the PIKE being a bit cheaper, but not by much.

Pike, because it's stronger and has motion control dampening!

Pike is made by rockshock right? Well I know that marzocchi make good solid forks and they ride well, but are on the very heavy side. I beleive that rockshock make their forks lighter but I have no personal experience so...

I say PIke! i own pike race and its awesome =) ull love it once u get it. its light, strong and just tiny bit more travel. btw i dont really get motion control damping... and also.. compression adjuster, does it still work when u dont lock ur fork? or is it necessary to have it locked in order to play with compression.?

Z1 FR. It doesn't weight much more than a Pike (maybe 1/2 lbs), it's proven, it's strong, and it feels like butter.

Yeah. Marzocchi do feel amazing.
But the adjustements aren't as invovled.

Pike is a way better fork and from what I've seen of them over here they aren't breaking or leaking or doing any other things that Rock Shox used to do!

totally go with the pike!
even with adjustments aside, the pike is both very plush and repsonsive and a great, reliable fork
go with the pike all the way -- :)

I'd say pike
Fromme what I have heard I would say pike. But which pike? There are quite a few.

I'm hoping it didn't take him 2 years to decide.

I owned the Z1 a couple years back and rode it all summer on Fromme. Great feel, low maintenance. I ride a Pike 454 now and I prefer it to the Z1. I found it easy to tailor to my riding style, light, and smooth. Both worked well, but I prefer the Pike for weight and how easy it is to dial.
I've riden and owned both.
I remain with my pike

You can't really go wrong with a Pike (unlike certain other models in RS' range....) but I'll be sticking with my 2004 Z1 Freerides for a long long time I guess. I've put 10w oil in them to increase the damping and lessen any bobbing (never really use the ETA) and other than that I just ride them. But far more important that any of that, they are typical old skool Marz....blaaaaaack, with gold adjusters and 'evil' Bomber decals. Pikes just look metrosexual in comparison ;)

I bought a pike one year ago and am impressed. I do the easier free ride trails. It is nice shock and has lots of adjustability. In addition, the height control is necessary if you have an old frame like my g spot as you do not want to ride it at 140 mm all of the time.
My old shock was a 2000 Z1. Very solid, very simple and easy to maintain but the 115 mm was just not enough!
I ordered my Pike from a broker in HK and save 100-150$ on ebay. It came with a big fat roach in the steerer tube!
