View Full Version : Thoughts on Jerry Rig

This morning I rode Pink Starfish, the last double black trail that I had not ridden on Fromme. And here's what I realized. I think it's dangerous to have Jerry Rig rated only as double black. I think that the danger of Jerry Rig is easily on par with Air Supply, Flying Circus, and 38DD. I think it should be rated triple diamond on future editions of the Fromme map. Anyone visiting from out of town could get into serious trouble if they ride a trail like Ladies Only or Pink Starfish and then think they're ready for Jerry Rig.

Other thoughts, now that I've seen almost everything (non-secret everything) on Fromme, I have to say Jerry Rig is a masterpiece of a trail. Absolutely the most fun I've ever had on the shore. Can't wait to get good enough to clean everything on that trail!

dude its like a quad-black IMO.

jerry rig should have gotten an experts only rating on the cove production maps...who knows why it didn't

TheGiggler

skull is 2 blacks and lower ladies only 1. that is also backwards.

basically i'm saying no one will ever agree on all the ratings... and so many trails are hard to rate. what would you rate an easy trail that has one hard section? should it be what most of the trail is like or the hardest move??

and unless you actually send your suggestions to the map makers, it won't help! :)

i agree, Jerry rig is definitely just as hard as circus and air supply if not harder. IMO

now that whatchamacallit is gone, Jerry Rig is the most ballsy trail on fromme. definitely deserving of an expert only rating. it is the one of the sweetest trails I have ever riden. ( well.... walked/riden )

^^^ that's kind of what I was trying to initiate by making this post...

I was hoping that the map makers will get teh suggestion and consider it for the '05 version...

I also agree that the rating system is, in general, really subjective. But still, I think the Jerry Rig issue is a no brainer.

Jerry-Rig is nutbar:eek: Definitely a multi-black trail.

Starfish is a double black?? Single at best.

i dont see why it should matter... it should have a rating of: FUN!
i love how everyone gets into a debate!

Is it true that a bunch of 'green wood' was used to build this trail??

Not to change the topic, but GMG is right up there too (mostly because its sketchy).

the trail sucks and the builder's washed up... it should be rated green.

2 posts up: agreed. I mean whats so rad about it anyways, woo skinnies and wallride and stepdowns oeoeoe. Its not like any effort had to be put in to built it, film it, or clean it and look good doing so. Even Holm can unicycle the whole thing.

I don't see how you can say it's dangerous because of it's rating. The worst that can really happen is you have a long walk with your bike, and see some great trail building. If you don't have the common sense to check things out before you ride them to see if they're within your skill levels, Darwin will give you what you deserve.

I think most people use common sense, if a trail is double black use caution and look before you ride. If you don't and get fucked up then too bad, you were warned. If we start using extra symbols the system will lose its simplicity. I can just see it now, a bunch of groms at the bottom of a trail arguing over whether that trail was quadruple or quintuple black. Difficulty is too difficult to quantify.;)

I got to look at Jerry Rig before riding Starfish, and the first banana log ride is the best way to start the trail. Scares anyone away that think its actually as easy as a Double black. Kind of what whistler should do with A line, cause the 4 foot drop doesnt do justice.

chad

P.S. The log ride is friggin crazy, cant beleive Jerry did that in the snow !

You gotta take the gondie up and hike around the peak to find GMG. Sweet singletrack will take you all the way to the cove thru the back...

good riders can make it in less than an hour, not including the hike.

How did people manage to not die in the times before ratings and crap? I want a heads-up display on my bars that tells me what trail sections are coming up around the corner.

That sounds like the next release of Shimano's Flight Deck.

It's impossible for us to give you other challenging trail names for 2 reasons. 1 - we don't know what you're after (stunts, steeps, fast DH, skinnies, etc...)
2 - anything on par with JR and GMG is pretty much not talked about on the internet. Hook up with people and we'll take you to some awesome trails that are not on the maps...
