I may be coming out to Vancouver at the end of August with some friends that are attending a wedding in Stanley Park. Now while I will not be attending the wedding I will be bringing my bike and gear along. Perfect OP to ride the famous "NorthShore" How far is it from Stanley Park to the areas of the North Shore you guys ride? Would it be worthwhile to rent a cheap motel somewhere closer to the Shore?

I'd have 4 or 5 days to ride and I wouldn't want to spend the majority of it driving. Some suggestions wood be cool. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

rent the cheapest dump you can find , or camp in someones' backyard .

spend three days on the shore : cypress , fromme , seymour .

one day in squamish .

one day in whistler .

hook up with locals to get the most out of your time .

What is cheap around there? Motel? The cheaper the better. The local bike shops have rides or information about? Most of you shuttle right.

If I do come out there I'd love to hook up with some locals. Anyone care to babysit a pretty laidback 40 ish guy who is for the most part mentally 25 and loves to ride as hard as possible.

Grab a copy of Lonely Planet Vancouver, there will be some cheap lodgings listed in it. I wouldn't bother staying on the SHore - all three mountains are easily accessible from downtown.

When the date gets a little closer, post up and I'm sure all the locals will take good care of you. :)

Are there any cheaper hotels in downtown Van close to Stanley Park? Peopel I will be coming out there need to book a hotel room soon. Something reasonably priced and clean. I've been looking but all I can find is $175.00 to $200.00 a night.

How far of a drive is it to the "good riding" from downtown Van?

Thanx

you can get to seymour, fromme or cypress within 30 minutes drive time from downtown (maybe a little longer if bridge traffic is bad).

i would expect downtown hotels to be the pricier joints in vancouver - but that's pure conjecture on my part.

edit that - seymour is a little further - maybe 45 mins to get there.

Fromme is non-Shuttleable but has some true classics that you will want to ride. Lot's of shops on the Shore to choose from for supplies / maps / info - On Top, Steed, Cove, JH and Dizzy - you can ask which is best, but that'll spark a big debate.

I don't know what to say for cheap accomodation (that is bike friendly I guess is the key) - there are some motels near the Lion's Gate bridge that look cheap when I drive by, or a Holiday Inn near the Second Narrows that might be an option. Try LonelyPlanet.com for some other potential accomodation suggestions.

Definately post up when you are on your way - I'm sure you'll be able to hook up with some local crews or tag a ride up to whistler bike park.

They deal with bikes all the time, I think they have a bike locker room that you can check your bike in.

A friend of mine from California and his ride group has stayed there, but it isn't cheap.

We stayed at the Days Inn in N.Van the last time we were there. Cheaper than down town and close enough to everything.

There is a travel lodge a holiday inn and a couple other motels on capilano road in north van. best of both worlds, your a 10 minute drive to stanley park and 10 minutes to the bike trails. id guess they go for over a hundred a night in high season. (there is also easy bus access to fromme and stanley park)

post up when you get you get closer, no worries getting you hooked up for rides.

When you come to Whistler, stay here:

www.whistlerresortandclub.com
Rooms from 60 dollars...and it's totally sweet.

It's in Creekside, so you'll need a car to get to the base of Whistler mtn. It's only a five minute ride. Creekside has everything you'll need, but no access to the mountain once summer rolls around.

You should stay at the Lynnwood, It's at the base of the second narrows and there is a kick ass trucker bar where you can pick up cougars, but for you I guess they'd just be women.:D
