Holly Crap it's Back!:rocker:
That's right kids, get your flimsy excuses ready cuz on June 4 those in the know are going
Beyond the Valleycliffe of the Dolls
For those unfamiliar this event combines everything that makes up an ultimate freeride experience. :thepimp:
First you take your bike, and for the next four hours you get a deluxe guided tour through Squamish's "locals only" secret mountain bike stashes with some of the best characters out to have a good time. But there should also be water, heck Gatorade, oh what the hell, endless fresh melons, and fruit served not once but twice in the middle of the trail by beautiful people. Then on those particularly nutty sections there should be a beautiful Gauge doll standing there making sure I'm feeling and looking good. Then like all epic rides it should end with a brew pub party including beverages, gourmet pizza and mountains of prizes and praise. Yeah, now that's a kick ass day!

I'm in again this year, Brian. I've heard rumours of the Bonzai Pipeline - is this true?
Shakes

Is it hardtail-able?
I rode 35 days on my hardtail in Whistler, so I know that most stuff here is rideable on a hardtail, but I know Squamish is different and tougher.
Will the fatigue kill me? Where there any ht's last year?

I did the ride 2 years ago on a hardtail, definately doable and I'd say better then a big dually. a small travel light fully is the perfect bike for this ride.
After watching from the sidelines last year, I'm so in. I just hope I'm on a new ride by then :)

i guess this where I say there could be something new like I do every year then never do anything about it. Bryan drop me an e-mail.

i swept it last year with ted on my hartail, which basically had no front brake. If you want and exciting bluffs experience try that set up!
This event is one of the many reasons squamish kicks ass

Yee-haw! Let the countdown begin!
I did it last year on my hardtail, and suffered less than many with their big duallys. It's a couple of thousand feet of hike-a-bike, so something a bit lighter (yet still strong) is a good idea.

As a new 'local' resident I am in for sure. The trails thru the bluffs and crumpet are a friggin maze!!

sweeet.
a returning rider is a happy rider.
glad to hear there's so many happy riders.
All the sponsors are back with some tasty new additions.
Gauge Clothing just signed on so the Gauge Dolls (previously Dare Dolls) will be styled right up with those fabulous Gauge threads.
If the adventure center's not built by then maybe we can build a tranny to ride the beams after the pipeline :)

is it true that this year is going to be more race oriented, or is it still going to be the same ol good time ride it always was?
Zedbra

Collin, we must ride. PM mister

why do people ask if things are doable on a hardtail...just ride your bike who cares what it is. the shore started with rigid bikes, and people ride it on unicycles, so i think you could do it on most anything

re: is it true that this year is going to be more race oriented or is it still going to be the same ol good time ride it always was?
Funny, every, and I mean every year someone rides it as fast as they can. The day is not designed for the racers, it's designed for a good time with great people on amazing trails. however if you just want to go nutz than who am I to stop you :)
re: if things are doable on a hardtail
I hear ya on the "everything is do-able on a hardtail" That said since the invention of 6&6 suspension there are many trails that are not built with the hard tail in mind. It's all good in the 'cliffe.
Last year Ted swept it on a hardtail and something stupid like 90psi in both tires. madman :D

I missed it last year due to procrastination, the best way to get other stuff done. I'm in for sure this year. Now to "ride" it on the ht or the big dually?

I can't wait to try my hand at this event. Every other year I've either been working or racing bc cups that weekend. I am looking forward to it. By the sounds of crew intrested this year, kyle fortin might have a tough time going for the back to back wins. Barry, get out there and litter the course with jumps, gaps and berms, you've got too much time on your hands and your probably not doing anything better!

whatever you do, dont do the drop on Joint Effort with too much speed. A guy named Moe broke his face doing that to fast, and I ended up in the hospital on gas on it too. I just went a little to fast and landed flat, hit a tree and tore all the ligiments, then landed on a log bruising my liver and stomach. That was on a training/preride for the BVOD.

hahaha,
Ok, that advise should really be on any feature. The tranny is sooo long and smooth it's tough to screw up especially now with the funnest totter you'll ever glide going into it. But with enough speed anything can flatten you out.
as for moe - of course he nailed it smooth the first time then decided to speed it up for the second. he never broke his face, just swallowed lots of dirt and bruised his ego :)
as for Barry's work - keep it up fella - just wait till you see this beauty.
now I'm off to get even more fat sponsors...

i'll just stick to rippin the freight train (or whatever its called) in the gear jammer epic
Shakes
04-08-2005, 12:33 PM
Ahhh, the gearjammer - only in Squamish can you have a course that seems like even the downhill his uphill. As for "freight train?" Either that's 'tracks from hell' or 'rollercoaster' either way it's no 'Labour of Love' :D
in other news - I love the fact that :czech: is one of the main smilies now.
viva la czech!
now if you'll excuse me, the ladies and I have some trail work to do...
in the mean time, feel free to step up to the registration plate.

well done diggs, that will go in the "valid excuses" pile as determined by the BVOD collective.
last year the best excuse was the loss of a leg.
and just to clarify, "I'm not good enough" is not an excuse.
and being "hung-over" is actually a category.

anyone else huck the big rock face on Labour of Love? I didn't actually know you could roll it, hit it by mistake on my hardtail in full XC gear, scared the shit outa me! Maybe my balls will be feeling extra big and I'll try it again on the ride.
anyone know if it's filling up quickly?

Squampton
04-14-2005, 11:16 PM
yeah i did last year on my hardtail with no front brake. The landing needs some love, its a lot better line to just roll
Shakes
04-15-2005, 11:25 AM
I'm a big fan of the vertical granite roller's so yeah it was built to roll.
The landing is far too flat for my taste but that never seems to stop the air lovers from hittin' it.
Wait till you see the new one that was meant to launch :D
Ed Anger
04-16-2005, 08:50 AM
Is this something else that's new, or is it the one up Five Point? If it's the latter, I can testify that it's the proverbial sheeaat. Even a big sissy like me can hit it and get the 8'x8' loving.
