Taken from the Whistler Bike Park Website:

Whistler Mountain Bike Park

Weekends Only: April 30 - May 15, 2005 10am - 5pm
Daily: May 21 to October 10, 2005 10am - 5pm

I am wondering where the April 1, 2005 opening date came from that was posted in another thread?

April 1 - even with a couple of runs open would be sa-weet!

Who's got the latest info?

Is it just me, or have they changed the extended play schedule? Seems like Saturdays for a few weeks and then Wednesday to Friday.

Who here is planning on doing the crud to mud? I was looking at their site and it said that you had to register the day before? I want to do it but I don't know if I can be up for 2 days in a row cause i'm in grade 12 and working as well.

I'm gonna do the crud to mud if my knee is healed and properly strong. Anyone know which DH trail is being used this year for the biking portion?

April 1st is highly unlikely. The powers that be are talking about earlier than April 30th but the go ahead has not been given.

If you want the park to open earlier let the decision makers know, very politely. Leave feedback here.

my original inquiry

Hi. I'd just like to take this time and relay the feeling of excitement regarding the possibility of the WB Bike Park opening up earlier than usual. I sincerly hope that it does if its a sustainable and viable option as I know there are throngs of mountain bikers in the Vancouver area alone that are itching for the lifts to be working. Just something to consider given the relatively poor snowfall this past season as well. I only checked the reply to my email address box as I would like to know what the odds are percentage wise of this happening. Thank you. Dave.

and the reply

Thank you for your suggestion.

We are currently trying to maintain the ski-outs to the Village base area for as long as we can for the convenience of our skiers/riders. When the ski-outs become impassable, we will look at the possibility of opening the mountain bike park.

Because of the season, there are still a lot of great mountain biking trails out of Whistler Blackcomb’s boundary, at lower elevation, that are fully operational. Some of the trail network in the valley (south to Squamish) and plenty of trails in Pemberton (25 minutes north of Whistler) are free of snow and offer great mountain biking right now.

While I can not give you the “exact odds”, we promise to do all we can to open up the park for mountain for biking, as soon as it is possible…. and safe to do so.

Carol...

So there we have it for now.

They are really good at keeping up with the emails.

The senior leadership team gets reports on the feedback and does care, so it is a good way to show them how many people are interested in the park opening early.

Whistler Blackcomb is trying to put a discount package together with the spring ski pass, if this happens the pass should go on sale April 1st. If not the Bike Park passes would be on sale by April 15th at the latest.

Sorry for not having a more definate date but they are waiting for confirmations.

comin to work this morning it looked like the snow line was higher up than yesterday, this rain has melted pretty much all of the snow down below, all thats really left is man made from what i can see, but i havent been up in a couple weeks so i have no idea whats left above mid station, but hopefully the park opens soon, can hardly wait!

Apparently Comfortably Numb is clear but with the moisture I don't think its too rideable, maybe the first half. The ski outs are looking thinner and thinner everyday......

run outs are so thing, this week high temp will finish off the run outs, but next week it is going to get cold again with no snow though, but they can make it if they choose.

whats the magic chair?

the magic chair is a 3 person chair on whistler. I leaves from the base at the village. take a look at the map for base 2

Magic chair is the one you see from base 2 when you go with a school. It's not on Whistler, it's on Blackcomb.

I am not sure why they have the Magic Chair up on the Bike site, but it must mean they are running beginners up it for lessons is my guess. You know get used to a little gravity assistance, easy slope for learning. But that means the bottom kids center could have a traffic problem. Or just access from the Blackcomb side, ride across Base 2 to the ski out to the Village. Any thoughts patrolskid?

HOLY CRAP 4 DAYS OF EXTENDED PLAY A WEEK. That's amazing I don't have to change my days off, and beginners away from the main park is brilliant, they won't get too scared to come back and keep them from getting smoked on the busy trails.

you got it 'bud : beginner area .

by the way , i gotta eat crow on the april 1 thing ( along with DK ) . we spoke today , and while it might have been possible to get the park running by that date , for reasons i won't go into here , they have decided to stick with the original date .

sorry for any premature excitation , my intention was not to give out bad beta , or april fools gags , only to give you keeners the inside scoop .

The Magic chair will be mainly for the Kids programs and some adult beginners. They are thinking about 3 trails so it will probably be just an introduction area for adults but it should be great for the kids, less vertical.

It also puts Mountain Biking in front of all the families that check out the circus that goes on at the base of Blackcomb in summer.
