So I got this idea for a stunt, and it requires a fair bit of PVC pipe. Ive been told that PVC pipe wont hold up very well out in the rain and snow, but I thought that it was pretty tough. It wont be supporting any weight, so it will only have to last through the weather. Will it be able to hold up?

Also, what is the "perfect" rung spacing? And what does 1/2 inch PVC pipe cost?

sunlight (uv rays) will break pvc down and make it brittle.

imo, the closer the rungs the better, just leave enuff room for the dirt to fall through so your ladders are self cleaning.

The stunt is gonna all be forested, so hopefully i can avoid that. Its not like we get tons of sunshine on the island anyways

UV light will affect the pipe unless its dark there 24-7.

you could use abs pipe... its similar, but im fairly certain it doesnt have problems with sunlight

taken from the NSMBA site:
A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, can my dog (or my kid) walk on this ladder without plunging their feet through the ladder and breaking their femur? If there's a good chance of some leg-breaking action then you have to suspect that you might want to put the rungs a little closer together or invest in some good metal splitting wedges!

The rungs don't have to be too close together. Ideally the rungs should be 1.5 inches apart but who's counting?. This will allow mud to fall through but feet and arms should not.

nigel and i have used pvc pipe a lot on lower crippler for drainage. it doesnt hold a ton of weight, but you can put a layer of small rocks on top of it. it survived the rain, freezing snow, and more rain period you guys have had on the coast so far this winter...

just use the the thickness of the handle on your hammer (the thinner side) as a guide

that is 200 series, schedule 40 is double the wall thickness if not more and is almost impossible to break when burried, but is at least twice the price. Not cheap though for larger diameters. Regular price for a 10ft length of 6inch diameter 200series is $50-60.

"fair bit"...well, 1/2" is the cheapest at least.
"won't be supporting any weight"...good!
"weather"....it becomes brittle really quickly. Regardless of full sun. It's not meant to be exposed, period.

"rung spacing"....we like the span of a 2x4 stood on edge, so 1 1/2" gap.

Are you thinking of splitting it down the middle to make skinny stuff?

Use the ABS. It'll cost some more but it'll last forever.
