Wondering if anyone can help me out here. I tried the search with no results.

I just picked up an 02 Norco 250 ht frame and am in the process of swapping all my components from my old FS to it. I have a 6" Avid rear mech that I can't seem to get it to fit right. In order for the caliper to fit properly, the wheel has to be sucked right to the front of the drop outs. Because I am running dual 26"'s the tire has no clearance and rubs the frame. Has anyone come across this before? Do I need a different adapter for the brake?

Ya. I had the same problem. Sorry bro, but you're out of luck. The axle has to be all the way forward for the brake to work properly. A 26x2.1 fits though. Or you could do what I did and get a 24 back there

Did you try using an adapter for a larger rotor? That should allow the tire to slide back far enough to get some clearance, no?

I believe when I looked that an 8" rotor won't clear the frame. My 6" rotor just cleared the frame.

I don't mean changing the rotor itself, just the adapter on the caliper. It should give the wheel some room to slide back. Just wondering if anyone has tried it. I just bought new rims and hubs. I don't want to have ot go out and buy new rims and tires. Damn hard tail.

Nope, thats one thing I haven't tried. I doubt it would work though because of the higher positioning. My brake was seated pretty near the very top of the rotor. So a higher adapter would raise it too much.

Maybe you can try to get an adapter custom machined:???:

Damn. Thats what I was affraid to hear. Anyone have 2 24" rims they want to trade for brand new Alex Supra BH rims?

Thanks for the help. If anyone else has tried the larger adapter, let me know.

You should try it out anyways if you have a buddy who can lend you the adapter to try.

Has anyone out there ran dual 26" with disk brakes? If so were they Avid 6"?

My bro has the same bike, the same brake, and had the same problem. Here's what I did to fix it, it's quite simple really:

1) Bolt the caliper/adapter to the frame, then take off the caliper via the CPS bolts.

2) You will notice that the conical CPS spacers look exactly like those found on V-brake pads.

3) Take the thicker "cup" washers from an old set of V-brake pads and use them to replace the thinner ones that come with the brake.

4) Alternatively you can also use washers of the appropriate size under the stock "cup" washer. The CPS bolts will now not thread in quite as far but due to their deep threading to start with I don't see this being a problem.

Now there is the help I was looking for! Thank you so much Jeff! I Just so happen to have a couple of old v-brakes sitting around. I will try it out. I think you just saved me from spending all sorts of cash on a new rim. :thepimp:
