I can't decide for crap, I've been back and fourth, the 66 is a substantial amount cheaper....

I'm more confident in the 888, since it's a dual crown

I know the heigths, head angles and all that, both forks will work for me........

888 8" or a 66?

thanks

I suck at deciding

Personally, I'd go with a 888 for that machine. Unless you want start some bar spins/turns stuff. You should be able to find a used 888 in sweet condition for the same as a new 66 (I would think).

I'd go 888r (maybe a used one) with some flat crowns from Risse or Go-Ride. My Bullit felt really tall in the front until I got the Risse flat crowns....sooo much better now.

^^ i agree, a 888 would definitely be more characteristic of a vp-free than a 66 would, and that bike could manhandle some serious drops with a fat DC fork.

At Morzine, In France they hire out VP-Free's with the 888's on them and they look super sexy!!

I would say go for the 888's.

maybe find a pair of 04 Super T's - nice inbetween size - and probably good price

I agree with nelson a 66 would be a great match for that frame. I have a 888 and a 66 and i like them both

The great thing about that bike is that it will work great with either fork. It is so versatile that depending upon how you set it up, it can be either a heavy trail bike or a light downhiller. If you want to do more pedalling, dirt jumping, trail stuff but like to go off once in a while, go 66. If you like going big and rarely pedal up, then go 888. I had this same dilemma when I got my VP Free. I eventually elected for a Sherman Slider....I wanted dual crown without the heft....

if your going to get the 888 then get the risse flat crown or just get the 66 it really depends on what you think you will have more confidence and skill with

maybe this will help, I also have a heckler built as a light duty freeride/trail bike with a '05 z.1 (150mm)

I really like alot of the ideas behind the 66 it would save about a pound off my front end, they are both about the same heigth if the 888 has some flat crowns.

After I did all the tuning on the 888 and the flat crowns it's almost twice the price of a 66... well it is twice the price....

The 66, like the z.1 only uses one spring rate, and uses the air preload, on my z.1 I slapped the fork on the bike adjusted the rebound and off I pedaled into the woods.....(so no real tuning to speak of, no extra springs or any of that)

My real hold back on the 66 is I'm just not sure how confident I am in a 7" single crown, but if you watch NWD5 those dudes are not backing off on those fork's.......

and on the used stuff, I work at a shop so most of the time used stuff is about the same price I can get new stuff for; so it normally doesn't weigh out.....

thanks for all the help and keep the replies coming........

I've been going back and fourth for about a month now, and now that I have the money for the 66 right now it's kinda burning a whole in my pocket, but I think the 888 would seperate my bikes a little better..... i.e. heckler be a better light duty freeride rig and the vpfree be a big hit/dh/shuttle bike.....

edit: oh yeah, I don't go huge, but I am very hard on equipment, my vpfree and I will probably be living at snowshoe (a resort) this summer doing nothing but shuttling and riding the lifts.....

I was gonna mention it...

If it helps any, I also work in a shop, and I rode a 888 all last year. Im going to be running a 66RC all year, possibly even up at whistler.

I spoke with Ronnie @ zocchi he was yellin back and fourth with Tom and Tom has been running his (66) for almost a year now on a vpfree, and spent his summer riding in whistler..... He has the choice to ride whatever zocchi fork he wants, it made me think....

here was my vpfree, before it got raped for parts
