What should I expect to pay for a good XC disc wheel set?

Never ordered from bikeroom before (and I've seen some bad experiences here), but this looks OK for $145:

rhynolite aren't exactly XC. They're pretty heafty in comparison actually.

try these (around your price range)

the first ones save you about a half pound a wheel (that's rim too... BIG difference on a long ride)... and they're dirt cheap!

BTW: any wheels you get online should be checked for loose spokes, ridden around the block a couple of times, and tensioned/trued by a bike shop who knows what they're doing. (~$20)

My version of XC rims would be XT Disc hubs on Sun SingleTracks or something similiar. I had XT hubs on Mavic 223 rims and trashed them on the second ride (I also weight 250+lb with gear).

I would suggest a $200 maximum would be good. Call Bikeroom and see what wheels can be had from Quality Wheel House. These are typically handbuilt and hold up quite well.

That's a pretty good price for a the wheelset. They'd be more than strong enough for XC riding.

You could go with a lighter rim like the CR18, but it's definitely not as strong as the Rhyno Lite. Depends on how hard you ride, how much you weight, etc.

If you go for a machine built wheel, I'd strongly suggest that you have the spokes retensioned. I've seen machine built wheels that have poor tension and are a fair bit out of true. A proper tensioning will help the wheel last a lot longer.

I'm sure those are more than enuf wheel for riding XC. Make sure you call that order into bikeroom or you could be waiting a long time (from what i've been reading...)

does bikeroom let you pick stuff up in person? I think they're somewhere in tsawassen near the pt. roberts border crossing...
