View Full Version : Grips...what kind

I'm running answer grips that have like a motocross type raised gridwork on the side towards the ground (for your fingers), and those raised fins on the palm side, like my bmx grips were when I was a little kid. I like them, but I wouldn't say that I've ended my search for the "perfect grip" that I will buy in bulk and put on all my bikes for the rest of my life. Have any of you guys found a perfect grip? I realize that taste in grips is rather subjective, but I'd still like to know, just in case the majority of you guys are all running the same grip, in which case I would definitely check it out.
Ultimately, I'd like something a little thicker than average because of my big hands and long fingers. Also, I've never had the need for lock-ons of any type, because if I install my grips with some aqua net, they hold just fine.
Thanks
B

Oury Lock-ons best grips ever. They stay put, come off east (for gear replacement/repair) and are thick....I ove em.

I like ODI Rogues...

The oury's are too fat for me... but the rogues have a good bit of rubber, and are super sticky, even riding no gloves middle of summer. I've been using mine for 9 months, and they're hardly worn.

Another vote for ODI Rogue. I'm at almost 2 years on mine and they are pretty beat but I can keep rotating them and finding new spots to wear down :)

ODI Lockons, the Intense ones, I really like the flange on them, keeps my hands in the right position, MX STYLEZ!?!?!?!

Oury, and I don't have particularly large hands.

You won't find any agreement on the "best" grip.

I like the odi ruffians, but they do wear fast.

I like the Intense Lock-ons

everyone has their own preference in styles but you'll find the Lock-On system on probably 90% of the bikes on the Shore. They really are a good upgrade

I have really big hands, and I find that the Rogues are way to fat/thick. I like Ruffians, but they do wear fast...

Yeah, I like the ruffians aswell.

I bought my rogues because I was riding sans gloves. And they were perfect for gloveless riding. They do feel too large while wearing gloves in the winter though... Summer isn't far off though ;)

I must be the only one on here without lockons...

I ride Serfas grip, diagonal checkboard pattern with a full sized flange. I like em, but I don't have a shifter so yea. I like my grips thin as opposed to fat. Thing I find about lock ons is that they feel thing, you can feel the extra layer of plastic underneath.the grip, and I don't particularly like that.

That's not why I don't run them though, it's just cuz I'm stuck in the stone age :P They would make things so much easier.

I'm an ODI convert - but I agree with Keefer that they don't have the feel that plain old grips did. I ran those Serfas (non-ODI) for a few years and loved em.

I totally agree. The Lock-Ons feel too hard.

I agree with most, Oury lock ons are easily the best girps if you have big hands.
If you don't go with some Odi ruffions, or rogues, or whatnot

I like the Rogues. Ourys are sweet too, but a little larger diameter.

The Ruffians are the 'smallest' of the lockons so they are great with smaller hands. One of my buds prefers the Ruffians over all other lockons because there is very little raised compound to move/squish around in your hands, therefore giving him a more precise feel on the bar.

ODI lock on sizes.......for big hands, the Oury, fror medium size hands, Rouge, for small hands, Ruffian.

There are other ODI grips....Intense (med size hands), Lizard Skins (large hands and these include a DVD with purchase at most stores right now), Yeti (medium size), Race face (medium to small).

It's probably got less to do with hand size than personal preference, someone ask stubs what sort of grip he's barely clawing onto ;)

Cheap $7 haro grips on my hardtail, ODI Ruffians on the fully. Last year I used hockey tape on my hardtail, I really dont care that much as long as it doesnt move around while riding.

Got the Ruffians on the hardtail and a pair of Lizard Skins North shores on the dual sus, both lock-ons and both work great!

i'm digging the oury lock-ons nowadays. fwiw i measured the diameter of oury lock ons and rogue lock ons to be exactly the same. the ourys feel bigger tho since their blocks have less negative space (air)

I like the Serfas, or the Race Face Good'n'Evil.

Is that right. Good call. The Ourys just feel a bit bigger, never actually measured them :)
