View Full Version : 03 SuperT too soft

I had an 02 SuperT and it was OK stock.
I have an 03 SuperT(brand new) and it bottoms out too easily and I can push the fork at least 1/2 way thru it's travel with little effort.

Should I just add more oil?

Do I need heavier springs?

Is the 03 internals any different from 02?

Currently, with all this rain falling I'm say 190lbs + gear :-)

Alternatively I could also try heavier oil but it would seem to me that that would also increase the rebound time thus it seems to be a workaround rather than dealing with the actual problem (i.e. springs do their work, oil does it's work, don't try to get one to do the others work for it). Also, it may also not be the solution.

Ideas?

well i would go for a 10wt oil and a set of heavy springs

first thing i would do is go to max oil height

try a search, it may help you. I've responded to several of these threads with the solution.

Your stock springs and 7.5w should be fine for your weight. You need to increase the oil height, which will make the fork stiffer and more progressive.

Sorry corey - it's often easier to ask then search as searching often brings up 20 pages of threads with the search item asked (hard to couch your request such that you get the correct hit(s) and few others).

I've got oil so I'll do it myself - now to search for the threads...

Agreed. I wasn't giving you a hard time, just trying to help ya by letting you know there is material on this that might help.

If you need further help, feel free to email me or pm me.

Cheers,
Corey

I am the same weight and have the same fork. I put heavier springs in and kept the stock 7.5w oil. I also raised the oil level very slightly in each leg.

70-75mm from the top with 7.5w.

New springs may be the best long term solution.

Des

aaaahhhhh is that with the springs in or out, on my 2003 Super T anymore than 90mm you hydraulically lock the fork, and lose travel....

What's too much? 75mm from the top?

How did you measure your 90mm? springs out right?

Holy, how much do you weigh?

I'm 220 w/gear and would blow through all 6.7" of travel with your setup. We are talking stock springs here.

Des

Yeah I'm 210 without gear on, I had to go to extra heavy springs and 95mm of oil, it was all good after that.. except for one really heavy nose landing to flat on A-line.... then I was done....

Extra heavy yellows.... now that makes sense, although 95mm is still low.

Since thewwkayaker stated he was still running stock springs, as I am, I suggested ~75mm.

Thanx for all the input.

nija#2 - The 2002 SuperT forks have a range of 90-95mm while the 2003 have a range of 75-80mm. I just found it interesting that your can only put in max 90mm which is the max for the 2002 (according to M site)
