Sharon, we were out last weekend and conditions were pretty damn good for the start of the season. About 70% was open and the top had lots and lots of fresh. They are calling for snow today, Friday and Sunday. Morrisey was good and everything off the Crystal chair was excellent. Mid mountain has a 30 inch base and a lot more up top.

What skis to bring.... Cruisers (5*), powder (PR) or all mountain (G4's)?

the runs at the top are in good shape as far as i have seen..we spent most of the time in the backcountry enjoying the powder.:D

definetly worth coming up...all lifts are turning except the burfield chair.

i'd say all-mountain skis...and yes, basically you go towards the lake and drop off to the right.....sorta.

in that direction, but not quite as far, unless you have your avy gear on you and someone to show you the way back.

to right at the bottom of the hill infront of those two is elevators..basically its a cliff that fills in with snow..great skiing.
on the other side of the ridge to the right off the lake is executioner...its the 3rd steepest slope in the whole area and has a 60ft cliff in the center.
past the lake along the valley and then to the north-east you fill find the funnel. its the steepest slope we have here and is always loaded with snow.

most people go to the mainface area, which gets skied a lot. anything past that doesnt get a lot of traffic and you wanna dig a few pits before you go down.

I thought conditions were awesome if you stayed off the groomed lower runs.
We hit lots of the powder higher up and it was a blast. Crystal was just fantastic considering the date.
