Hi,

I am shopping for a goggle for snowboarding this winter. I wear glasses so I will need to find a goggle that can fit over.

So far I have found two goggle makers that have these types of goggles: Bolle and Oakley.

The Bolle X series and Oakley L series are both glasses capatible but I was wondering if any of you guys know any others? or have experiences with other goggles that are not designed for glasses but are able to fit over them?

So far I have looked at the Bolle X200, and Oakley L Frame. Bolle X200 are $47.99 on one site I've found, whereas Oakley post the MSRP on their site. The MX L Frame are cheaper than the Snow L Frame, but has clear lense. Does anyone know where I might be able to get tinted lenses for that model? Or should I just buy the Snow L Frame is no better options are offered?

Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Eric

what size are your glasses?

i have a pair of dragon foil gun metal goggles that fit over smaller sized glasses just fine. they are a bit pricey though.

go with the snow goggles (not clear lens) as the lens they come with will be suited for more all around use (ie increased contrast more sun reflect or whatever). I have had 2 pairs of oakley o frames older snowboarding ones which are fallin appart and mx o frames ( i will probably use my lens from my sb ones in my mx ones) I also have anon figments which i love . BUt on the glasses in them thing i have no idea

Several years ago I tried snowboarding with goggle over my glasses... Something about the extra layer of plastic in front caused my eyes to focus differently, which created a wicked eyestrain headache.

It doesn't happen to everyone, maybe just if you have a very strong lens prescription... You might want to try putting on a set of goggles and wearing them around the house for a few hours to see whether or not it causes eyestrain, before riding.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I don't think I'll consider the MX goggle anymore, as it does not have anti-fog treatment.

The Dragon is pretty expensive, and I am trying to keep the cost as low as possible. Same goes with prescribition lenses. A Frame and Wisdom are both pretty pricey as well . I think I'll just check out the Bolle X200 and Oakley L Frame. I don't have contact lenses.

About the headache from wearing goggles over glasses, I'll definitely be aware of that. Thanks.

One additional question though, where should I go for goggle shopping? I will be able to shop in either Saanich area or the GVRD. Wher can I get the best price in terms of goggles?

Thanks everyone!

I Just picked up a pair of Smith Knowledge OTG, they fit great over the glasses but I haven't tried them out yet on the hill. I'll let you know as the Peaks opens today.
Check them out.

Thanks for the link! It appears that most Smith goggles are glasses capatible.

I was browsing Mountain Equitment Co-op's website and I found the Smith Impulse PMT (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=702461&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=478863&bmUID=1101414832915) for $32.

That seems like a fair price, but the Smith (http://www.smithsport.com/products/snowgoggle/index.html) website does not have any descriptions on that specific goggle, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it and could offer me some reviews on it?

I am also looking at the Smith Spectra OTG (http://www.smithsport.com/products/snowgoggle/classic_spectraotg.html) from the Classic series and Cariboo OTG PMT (http://www.smithsport.com/products/snowgoggle/airflow_cariboootgpmt.html) from the Airflow series.

Thanks!

Eric

One word: Contacts

I got these last year specifically to make up for the years of foggy glasses and/or goggles and it was sooooo worth it.

i rode with glasses and spy goggles and they were just fine..there was noticeable fogging that disappeared when i wore contacts, but some visor-guard or the like will prevent that. it really depends on the width of the frame/temples on your glasses and for me it was ok when the goggles pushed against the glasses, for some ppl its not..

Most reputable winter google manufacturers make at least one OTG model. For the best quality lenses check out the following brands.
Scott
Smith
Uvex
Carrera

Oakley for sure. The best googles I have ever worn, lense clarity is amazing.

I guess you have never tried any of the brands that I listed above, all are far superior anti-fog technology to the Oakley lens. For best optical quality though, the spherical lens will be best, Uvex is the original for that, then Scott came out with something in the early 90's. Of course Oakley came out with something a few years back, tried to patent the technology as their own, but Uvex and Scott had it first, so they also can sell the spherical lens.

my dad had pretty big glasses a few years ago and uses smith goggles with a fan in the top of the goggle that prevents his glases from getting foggy

it's one of these models... not sure which one i think there was only one back then.

contacts are so much easier. They should end up costing less anyways.
