instead of answering a bunch of pm's i'm just gonna start a thread.
Talk to Sandra Ciotti at Park Insurance. She is an independent broker and will work to get you the best deal available out there. She is a great lady to deal with. Phone number is 604-659-3130
You can talk to any insurance office/broker but I just recommend Sandra.

one other thing.
if any of you have a group disability insurance program at work that you are enrolled in get a copy of the policy and have it checked out by a qualified agent. a lot of times the coverage you get thru a group policy is not that great.

Chris is a biker too and really understood what I wanted and more importantly, what coverage I didn't want

If you have Cycling BC insurance, does it help?

Take an insurance policy to an agent for another policy, and guess what the agent will tell you? But your point is well taken. My group Basic Plan (which is free) is a joke - $10,000 coverage. To get the Real Deal, I need to pay extra for the Extended Plan, which covers up to $1.5 million, dependng on what type of premium you want to pay.
Also, if you are reading this thread, you probably should have disability insurance. Unless you want to be, in the best case scenario, disabled, broke and praying some lawyer that you can't afford makes a good enough case for you in court. D.

I used to handle Cycling BC liability claims and some one else in my office handled the accident benefits claims. CBC are no longer insured through my clients, but I don't imagine the policy coverages with the current carrier or much different. The coverage is minimal and cheap. The premium is probably in the area of $1.00 to $3.00 per rider per year. You won't get much for that. Some the policies we do handle for other sports groups have death benefits of maybe $30,000 and it varies. Don't rely on what CBC gets you, at least not without checking with CBC on coverages. All members are entitled to see a copy of the policy, so if you really are interested, call CBC and ask. Might be something on their website too.

Thanks for the info...wouldn't it be a perfect world where everyone was covered under insurance and Dangerous Dan could build trails so hard he couldn't even ride them...and the DNV wouldn't even care...ahhhh

Some personal disability insurance policies can be tricky...
Some policies will consider you able to "work" if you can sit at a desk doing phone soliciting etc.
Read the fine print.

I think this is called a "residual benefit". If you were an ironworker and you are a parapelegic in a wheelchair, you can't do your old job, so you should (?) be fully covered. If your job was answering phones all day, you may only recieve a fraction.
My old plan covered things that way. My present plan is based on loss of function, and not what I can or can't do for a living. It ain't perfect, but it beats the alternative of having absolutely zero to fall back on. D.
