Its pretty easy to get to and there is quite a bit of potential. From the parking lot to skin up Austin run to the summer day parking area at Artist point would take 30-45 minutes, if you cut in sooner to the area we are in this picture you will be in the valley in about the same amount of time.
1st weekend out last year, scroll down to see baker

You can skin up Austin Ski run along the dowhill area boundary and go into the 'wilderness area' (make sure you have a pieps/shovel/probe - they can fine you down there without rescue gear). This part is easy.
On this map you can see the summer road and the ski lifts.
The summer road (Austin ski run) takes you to a parking lot... which is out of bounds and a flat area in the winter surrounded by lots of potential smaller play spots.
On your return you can follow their blue line which goes over a ridge to a steep slope for some turns.
Not recommended to go here in white out conditions, its all alpine - no trees, you are blind.

Can you identify the road in the topo map? That is how you get up to Austin Pass and Artist Point.
They went up the adjacent valley, up and over a ridge and down into Austin Pass.
I've never had to get as far as Table Mountain since there is so much to do before you get there.
To get into Artist Point via Austin Ski run to Austin pass would take aobut 45 minutes to an hour from the parking lot.
Go on a sunny day and explore!

since i'm probably one of the few people on this board who has had to recover a body from an avalanche heres a tip for you...if you don't know where you're going find someone who does and go with them
and if your going into the backcountry you better have a pieps, probe and shovel

I just hiked up to Table Mountain yesterday and it was great. Soft, light powder on a sunny day. What more could you ask for? Its probably a 2-3 hours hike depending on how fast you go. But it was well worth it.

craig. To the saddle below Table which is the fun aspect to ski is about 1 hour from trailhead with skis with skins going at a moderate pace. Hiking would take a long time if the snow was deep
