When i come back from australia, i will be bikless. That means i have about a month before the cypress park opens.

now, coming from a 41 pound single crown hardtail i would like to see if i could build somthing lighter and just as strong. i was thinking in the area of 5ish to 8max inches of travel and i would like frame only becaus i like building up bikes with my specs...

this frame can't be too expensive because i'm not made of gold. it also has to be strong enought for repeated whistler trips and cypress daytrips as well as evey other shore mountain and light enought for very few enduro rides (partially climbable).

i really like the cove hooker but i just wish it had about an inch more travel. a demo 8 would be sweet but it is a tad pricy....

oppinions?

Transition Dirtbag with the extra travel?

Banshee Chap? I mean, I've certainly never ridden one, but they're supposed to be the shite. Build it up however you want, the Chap can do it (apparantly). And it's backed by a 10 year (!) warranty.

sx trail is so sick, 6 inches on travel so much then more for anything. More just gets in the way.

bullit, heckler, vp-free, chaparal, scream, switch, rmx, norco shore or six, g-spot, playmate, devinci wilson, big hit,

any of those bikes could be built up to be a really fun bike.
when you get back just go on a bike testing rampage to steed, john henry, on top, cove, etc.

i just got a B1 Woodbumble with some sherman breakouts. hands down the fastest and nimblest bike I have ever ridden. I thought maybe 6" wouldn't be enough for whistler but I was very wrong as I hadn't had so much fun there ever. On Top just ordered a whole bunch of them and you can get them in 8" as well.

A new medium travel bike frame that's strong, light, and inexpensive is going to be hard to find. They're currently trendy and fashionable, which makes for an excessive price tag.

I tried a 05 Stinky the other day (7" of travel, Fox DHX 3.0 shock), and the rear felt great. The 05 Coiler is now a 6 and 6 bike; I have the 2004 and it's great unless you're doing big drops.

Both bikes have that hardtail-like feel, plenty of suspension, are strong. The Coiler is a good all-bike that you could ride XC with (I do).

Consider getting a whole bike ($2400 retail for Stinky, $2200 for Coiler), then parting out what you don't want, or swapping in what you do want.

You could probably do the same with a some other manufacturers; I'm just pointing out what I'm more familiar with.

Here's a nice DeVinci for around $2K. Looks like a bike that can do everything.

i am really into the look of the sx trail. it seems burly enought for large drops, jumpsand shore type stuff but at the same time ridable on the uphill. now if only i knew the price *cringes*

price for sx trail?

The SX is a really nice looking and well specked bike. There's a good review of it here (http://www.nsmb.com/gear/sxtrail_09_04.php).

The review seems to indicate that you could build the bike up 30 to 35lbs. With 6" of rear travel and a shock that eliminates bobbing, it would definitely be a great all mountain bike. The 66R fork is pretty burly.

I'd guess pricing for the full bike is probably going to be over $3K CDN.

hmm it doesn't really seem to be an in depth review, more like a preview...

the one question i have from that bike is.... is the enduro/sx frame strong enought to handle the rigors of the shore and repeated whistler/cypress?

i guess only time will tell
