Here's a public service announcement.

They're often not available January 1st. Or February, or March... or... well you get the idea.

Now that you've read this, we won't have any threads whining about how you gave your money to your LBS and your bike isn't in yet, right?

;)

But if they tell me it will be ready Jan 1st I better not be getting dicked around.
Say the truth and you won't get in trouble. Lie and I'll be the biggest bitch of a customer ever.

No stopping it. Norco bikes will be late this year (always what is complained about?) and people will bitch. I predict 5-6 threads.

its not the shops fault theres a huge train of waitlists going from the LBS to the distributor, to the manufacturer to the machinists or whatever to the materal supplier to the miners and whatever the hell else. Deal with it, sometimes everything cant happen as soon as people would like.

My Norco has been ordered...

I will only get mad if other shops have them sitting around on the floor, or I do not get the first bike in (I was first to order)

You'd think the bike co's would figure this out and order accordingly... Take last year's issues, add some more stock and order. Early.

One company can, but you look at how many companies are involved with each component, and how many components there are.

Big deal.. people drop a TON of money on a condo that's 40 floors way before the hold in the ground is even there.. a deposit on a bike is a mere rounding error in the grand scheme of things

Collaborative real time supply chain management.

No excuse for large established companies to not have it now.

I ordered a prophet 1000 suposed to be here in feb with a shipment of some other bikes .We won't be riding till april cuz of the snow so no worries I HOPE

which giant you looking at? The dh or the new freeride bike?

the DH now has a dropped top tube for better standover and IMO it looks pretty good,I don't remember seeing any to demo .We demoed the 6" freeride but The freeride 8" was so new they didnt have any to demo,I heard the display models in the show were mockups and the only 3 in existance

Ah yes, the "where's my bike" threads and the flood of customers asking the same thing will surely provide the initial reactions they always do...............for the first little while I will be genuinely concerned (posting, calling distributers, etc.), followed by trying to enlighten them as to how the industry works (right or wrong, but most often how things work in this business are wrong), and finishing up with kind disregardance while we continue to wait for whatever wonder bike was supposed to be here in january, but it is now march and we still haven't seen it. We can try to explain it, pass the buck or get angry, but no matter how far down the chain of command you try to go, there will always be someone further.....customer blames bike store, bikestore blames distributer, distributer blames company, company blames factory, factory blames suppliers, suppliers blame slaves that take the crude materials from the earth in some 2nd or 3rd world country..........you see how this goes. Putting money on a bike that may not exist yet is a craps shoot...........you are paying for the privalege to be the first kid on the block with the "GI joe with kung fu grip, now with life-like fuzz to simulate hair" action figure. If you are without a bike altogether, mmmmm that's unfortunate and poor planning on your behalf, otherwise, suck it up and wait, if it was ordered with the booking, it will come eventually............poor customer service? yes...but there is little if anything that can be done about it....I try to warn ppl when the put their deposit down, but even those ppl seem to forget this when they are in a week later asking about their bike.

This may all seem a bit harsh, especially since this is a thread about a type of thread, rather than the actual thread. I think it's good to get this out of the way now rather than have it come up again and again in a few months. Maybe this will help to calm the "I'm so mad at insert LBS because my totally obscure insert wonder part here hasn't come and they said it would be here" threads. Remember kids, when the shop tells you a time that something is going to be there, they are just repeating what they were told by the distributor, they do not have the ability to go through the distributors warehouse to see if it is actually there.
