Hey guys we just got our mitts on a set of proto type Hayes El Camino´s and are in the process of giving them a hard time. If you want to see what we think of them so far check out this initial evaluation at

Due to our terrain we probably do as many braking miles in a week as most do in a month or more so we test em hard.

Cheers

So they work well, but how do they bleed? Is it super tricky? Finicky? Can you do it with Mag/HFX bleed kits? Can you bleed them with confidence just once, and not have to re-bleed?

I was told by the guys at Hayes to not mess with the bleeding ... as it is different from the Mag, and does not use the same system as the Mag ... so, since they work fine at the moment I'm not going to even play with that side of things. I'll update the review when I do though.

the power adjustment, is that just a variable cam at the lever pivot point to increase leverage near the end of the stroke?

also: finally going to a mono block caliper!

the g1 and g2 calipers were two pieces, and had a lot of flex. squeeze your lever while pinching the caliper pots betwixt your thumb and index finger... feel that mad flexing? haha, i have goodridge hoses, i can see my calipers flex!

i'm expecting the el caminos to be the shizzle for the next 6 years just like the original hayes.

the power adjustment dial moves the pivot point for the lever. Its quite a nice execution of that actually. Sure its not much change, but I like the idea. Its something I'm going to focus on trying to understand/get a feel for over the next couple of rides.

lame.

different pads
different bleeding methods

the one thing i always loved about hayes as a company is the standards that they always adhere to...now they arent?

above all of that...the def LOOK better than previous hayes solutions :)

you need more pics on your review!
