The City of Kamloops wants to build a mountainbike park on 80 acres in town. Easy access. Free use. Designed by the mtb community, built by the city. Will likely include 4X and Dual Course, Jump park, some short DH runs with stunts, drops, jumps etc. Suitable for a variety of levels. It'll be wicked and us riders are stoked! The city is concerned that it'll get built and not used after the first year. We need your support (in and out-of-towners) so tell us what you think and, for the love, do the poll. Please and thanks.

p.s. this will be brought to City Hall so your, um, good-natured* enthusiasm is appreciated.:D

BTW..how exactly do I set up a poll?

What a dumb ass...I forgot to mention the best part...

THE PARK WILL HAVE A RIPPIN' A-LINE type (but even better?!) TRAIL for the high-flyin' monkey in us all.

And I figured out the poll...have at 'er.

Still in planning stages, but money has been budgeted for it by the city. Probably up and running late fall or (at the very latest)next spring.

thats so awesome! the cities allowed budget and everything! it takes so long for anything to happen here in winnipeg. or they'll talk about stuff and it will never happen.

YA MAN

If they need any help building, I'm there!!

I don't go to school so I may as well do something constructive. :D

What will they do about maintenance though? Because I know there's gonna be people casing etc and not fixing after, ,or skidding thru everything and doing stupid things...
and unless they truck in some good dirt that isn't sandy, the wear and tear will be high and it'll need tons of maintenance.

there's an optimist for you:) I worked for 3 different municpalities over the last 10 years and if anything got done in a year it was a miracle. I hope it happens for you loops people but don't be disappointed if it takes a little longer than what they say.

PS I hope I will be eating these words in a year

The proposed location of this park is great.(all things considered)
YES! I will use it. AND help maintain it.
YES! I firmly believe it would only ADD to the draw that Kamloops and area already has on Mountain Bikers worldwide. Besides the "formal" tours that are here.....I constantly meet riders that are from out of town. That's tourism income...pure and simple. But there is room to make Kamloops a true ONE stop destination!
The combination of an all-out Bike Park aswell as RoseHill and a few other trails the local riders know of would make Kamloops irresistable and a multiple day desination resort for Mountain Bikers:D

PLUS....the bonus of staying in Kamloops for a couple days riding but being able to run up to SunPeaks for the day.(while staying in Kamloops because you're already here:) )

$$$ flow City of Kamloops:D

haha. yes, yes you will. ;) Then you can come up and help out, take some photos and put a little story on the nsmb homepage! Hey, didn't I meet you on the Whitecroft trail last summer? I was the girl on the FOR bike, not in the camp.

Anyway, ya gotta be optimistic about these things or it'll NEVER happen. From the words of a city councillor "the sky's the limit".

Sweet BF, thanks for the offer, your help will be needed. But first show up to the next mtbers meeting (ask shops for details...next week?) ... that goes for all kamloops riders!

Maintenance will be done by us responsible, greatful and respectful rippin' riders (aka all of us). THey're talking about running a water line up the park to help during our dry-as-a-popcorn-fart summers. THe ground is silts and clay (this whole place used to be a lake, now its lakebed sediments)...wicked for packing up the dirt jumps.

I'll have to ask about the meetings, it sounds like a good thing to check out.
Running a water line up would be soo helpful. Hopefully that happens.
Sorry I called you "man" up there too :S hehehe

Awesome idea!!! The more the better! Kamloops has some of the best riding EVER as it is, with a park there, that'll give even more reason for a road trip!

What kind of park will it be? Dirt jumps? Drops? Trials?

So it would appear the KMBA is up and going again:)
About 50 people showed:cool:
President and Vice were appointed.

This park will have everything! From kids stuff to Pro stuff. Drops, jumps, DJ's, trails, stunts, anything:) An A-line type trail would certainly be built.
The word was that there MIGHT be some ridable trails etc. in this park by the end of the summer.
But the whole thing sounds positive for sure.

With this Park, Rose, Lolo, Harper, SunPeaks, unlimited XC terrain everywhere, BMX track......a one stop destination:thepimp:

You're welcome to come out here! But... Kamloops is about 450km away from Victoria :P
Worth the drive though, for sure! Make sure you tell some of us locals before you come out we can show you around
