Scratched stanchions

My girlfriend got a small scratch on the right stanchion of her Super Ts last weekend when she crashed in to a rock on Fromme . It's not a big or deep scratch but it seems to have taken the outer coating off and it's not smooth anymore when you run your finger over it.

I was wondering if this will affect seals or ride and if there is anything we should do or just leave it alone. I remember overhearing some dude at Whistler this summer who had scratched his stanchions. I think he said he was going to sand it will some really fine sand paper to smooth it out.
