I only know how to get there from Maple Ridge...sort of.
I can tell you it's worth the effort of potentially getting lost.

down lougheed, then dewney trunk road towards the hills, then left on 287 street until you hit the clearing. Climb up from there.

The more I think about it, what is a secret trail? If more than one person knows about it, it's not a secret.
IFO think they should be called hidden trails - sounds more exotic as compared to forbidden.
Dunno the policy regarding posting directions, but common-sense tells me that is something that likely should fall under the PMing category.

is it left .. i thought it was right....hmmm wonder where ive been riding...
Isn't the woodlot an entire riding area, not a specific trail? So wouldn't the guy still have to find the actual trails?

it's not directions on how to find the trails, just how to get to the riding area. the guy still has to get someone to show him where the trails are, or he could just spend a day hiking around and figure it out for himself.

Woodlot parking is 49.22573N 122.42754W
Gold trail head is 49 14.614N 122 25.835N
And yes, I realise I've used two different conventions for conveying GPS coordinates. Who said I had to make it easy?

i dont think theres anything wrong with posting directions to the woodlot....i mean hell, i was up there 3 days ago, and some highschool kids had a filedtrip up there, so its not at all secret. turn left at 287 off dewdney,(its right before mission coming from maple ridge) theres som sort of genral store right before it. follow road to parking lot, and start hikeing up

No, I think the whole idea behind not posting explicit directions was this:
With clear directions, it's too easy for anyone and everyone to find the trails, resulting in more traffic eroding the trails, and less experienced riders injuring them selves.
By making it a little more difficult to find the trails, then only those riders that are really committed to going will put the energy into finding directions, meaning of course fewer riders (face it, there's alot of lazy people out there) and hopefully, because the riders that do make it are problably more dedicated, they are probably more skilled as well.
Do we want the general masses, or do we want dedicated riders?

What do we want as “dedicated riders”? Big old can of worms there…
Do I want fewer riders on a trail so it will stay in better condition for me to ride? Yes.
Do I want more riders to know about that trail potentially increasing the number of people doing trial maintenance? Yes.
Do I want fewer riders on a trail so I am less affected by waiting for larger groups to move through the trail? Yes.
Do I want more riders speaking up on land use/access issues at council meetings? Yes.
The catch 22 list goes on and on…
I don’t know which is better, more or less riders. I don’t know if giving out trail directions is good or bad. Does it promote/enhance the riding we do or does it detract from it?
Currently as a whole, riding on the shore contains good and bad elements. If ridership increases, which would include “dedicated riders”, I’m sure that both good and bad elements will increase with it.
Tough call.

Oh, and I guess I shouldn't plug gutsploder now either....

I guess you'll have to hike around for hours now looking for the trails too.
PS. Woodlot rocks!

I just don't wanna get lost, that's all, so I don't go out to look for trails unless there's someone who can tell me where to go. Otherwise, I'd just ride around Central Park and be bored. :(

Acutally, it would be wise NOT to post directions on the bb as opposed to pm'ing them.
Think about this...there are people out there that do not like what we are doing out there. They would rather spend their time making our lives miseable (i.e. - trail nazis) and could use posted directions to easily find the trails.
On the same note, be weary of the person you're sending the directions to. Find out if they are really into riding and not a person posing as one to obtain info that would assist them.
As alot of you folks up there know, there are people that could care less about our well-being and have no problems sabotaging our trails.
